Under the magnifying glass: Ivy

Magnifying glass with white stick figure on his kneesIvy May 2014An RVer named Margaret Smith gave “Ivy” to me (in 2014) because she was planning to travel to Alaska that summer and couldn’t take her four plants across the Canadian border. “Ivy” was in a much smaller planter and has been transplanted twice.

Hummingbirds and butterflies welcome!! I’ve planted bushes, and vines, to attract them. Elephant Ears and Asparagus Fern (and other tropical plants) were unscheduled plants in my “yarden.” The weather has been so hot and humid, very new Butterflies, no Bees, and Hummingbirds disappeared in mid-June.

Fingers crossedI’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping and praying they return soon. For the past two years, I’ve planted… and nurtured Butterfly Bush, Bee Baum, Cape Honeysuckle, Butterfly Vine and Hummingbird-Trumpet Vine. This year I’ve added Hummingbird-Cypress Vine.

Under the magnifying glass: Elephant Ear

Plant Person Pestered Persistently is the title I used for the blog introducing half-a-dozen new plants to my yard. At that time, I didn’t know the name of the plant and labeled it “unknown.” Less than thirty inches tall when I started nurturing it. Note the remarkable growths in less than three months. In the interim, I published messages titled Elephant Ear and Elephant Ear is growing so fast.

The Elephant Ear plants were not in the pictures but setting up a “mister” was primarily for their benefit. Leaves were turning yellow and I speculated the plants were suffering in the extreme heat and humidity. ~~ Situation rectified: Pictures taken.

Welcome to my “yarden” !!

Smiley face with cameraAs usual, I was in my “yarden” (my coined word)  early. The sunshine seemed strangely “friendly” this morning and put my plants in an admirable light. I felt compelled to grab my camera. Yesterday, “for the birds,” I drove to Livingston for bleach (from Dollar Tree). I use a lot of bleach to remove grime from the cement patio blocks and, of course, the fountain.

UnknownLast Fall and Winter, I protected a Fox Tail Fern in my tarp shelter. This Spring the rightful owner retrieved the plant and (gratefully) transplanted it in a much larger planter. I observed… and I requested a small bulb from the discarded soil. I thought it might be a Fox Tail Fern bulb (if there is such a thing) and worth planting. Well, all these months later, it is growing but no evidence that it is a Fox Tail Fern.

Love Packages

Heart with love bannerRecently, I learned about Love Packages.

Several days ago, from my book shelves, I started packing Christian books into a large box. Contrary to statements about hours spent in my “yarden,” I’m “downsizing” during the hours I’m forced to stay indoors out of the heat and humidity. Many household items have been donated to the CARE Thrift ‘n Gift shop. Books, however, do not sell–or are offered for ten cents or a quarter. I have a sizable library of Bibles and devotional books and I’m thrilled to find a place to send them. The box isn’t full (yet) but I’m dedicated to the project. Missionaries in far off lands will benefit when I’m “pushing up daisies.”

Himalayan Salt Lamp

Himalayan Salt LampThe health benefits of keeping Himalayan salt lamps in your home. See my earlier message.

How does a person measure the benefits?? I was able to complete an unscientific test about cool temperature under a “mister.” I was able to complete an unscientific test about the heat on the cement under the screen cloth. Seriously, my salt lamp burns twenty-four hours a day. I trust it is providing the benefits listed in the article.

Himalayan table saltHighly recommended.

Himalayan pink salt also contains far more calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium than regular table salt, making it a far superior culinary choice.

Something to think about ?!

The email message came to me with this update about the DARK Act.

A quick update: The DARK Act (the Whole Foods – Monsanto GMO anti-labeling bill) passed a procedural vote in the Senate yesterday. This bill is moving swiftly through Congress and may become law.

If it does, it will deny you the right to know what you’re buying and eating. Two of the biggest supporters of this bill are Monsanto and Whole Foods, which has been repeatedly caught blatantly lying about its support for this deceptive law.

Meanwhile, FBI head James Comey’s actions have now asserted the following astonishing claim: You are no longer under any moral of ethical obligation to abide by any federal law whatsoever. He has, in fact, vacated the fabric of law across America and turned the republic into a lawless regime run by despots.

The Health Ranger, Mike Adams, has written an article titled FBI head unleashes lawless America: Citizens no longer under any obligation to obey any federal laws whatsoever
