Location, location, location !!

Mosquito plant with three bloomsWhen it comes to real estate, we’ve always heard “location, location, location.” My conclusion: “location” explains the reason my Mosquito plant is blooming. Now they get morning sunshine; previously, they were always in the shade.

A combination for two years: Two Mosquito plants next to two rain barrels. On October 7th, 2015, I switched the rain barrels from one end of the awning to opposite end.

YipesThis is a brand new concept to me: How to Repot Houseplants.  I’m consistently guilty of planting in a larger-than-necessary pot!! It just made sense (to me) to transplant into a much larger pot!! Yipes!!

Christmas Cactus transplantedYesterday, I transplanted a Christmas Cactus from a four-inch pot. I’m the recipient of orphan neglected plants; I attempt to give them tender loving care. Look at the size of that Christmas Cactus restricted to a small four-inch pot.

Dave’s Garden

In North Carolina, I had a plant I could not identify. I submitted my request to Dave’s Garden and promptly received an answer. Today, at 10:15 AM, I submitted my second request (years later). I’m eager for an answer.  ~~ A neighbor lady gave me clippings and identified it as “Money Moss.” I’ve done a thorough Internet search and cannot find a plant by that name. ~~ I’m “growing” the plants–in shallow containers–for sale in our Thrift ‘n Gift Shop. It is my hope that I can attach details about the plant with the cute story. The neighbor said the plant is not sold at nurseries, Lowe’s or Home Depot; it is shared one-by-one through the clippings. “Money Moss” doesn’t guarantee we’ll have lots of money but it suggests we will never be destitute.

In other blog messages, I have commented that Google, and other search engines, regularly troll my email and blog messages. Today, Saturday, April 9, 2016, I received an email message from Amazon with Sedum seeds for sale. I find their description, and pictures, very interesting. I’ll be looking for those changes in my plants.

Plant identification

Brassica.

Unknown weedI’m “on a roll”; I have a “one track mind.” This plant is growing in my neighbor’s yard. Nobody seems to know the name. So I posted this picture (left) on Dave’s Garden and had an answer four seconds later. Really, four seconds later. It was identified as Brassica. Frankly, I don’t know–but see the resemblance. After reading the description on Wikipedia, I took my camera for “a closer look.”

Brassica rapa maybe (leaves)

Brassica rapa maybe (flower)

.

Specifically, this may be Brassica rapa.

Description: This plant is an annual or biennial about 1-3′ tall. Small plants are branched sparingly, while large plants branch abundantly in the upper half. The stems are gray-green or gray-blue, terete, glabrous, and glaucous. Plants that begin growth during the fall will overwinter as low rosettes with basal leaves, while plants that begin growth during the spring bolt upward almost immediately. Both the basal and lower leaves are up to 10″ long and 2″ across, but they are usually smaller….

Here’s the link to my question on Dave’s Garden. It may only be available for a limited time?!

No joke !!

First Hummingbird of this seasonRecently, I prepared nectar and hung three Hummingbird feeders. This afternoon, while preparing a big green salad, I was pleasantly surprised to see this Hummingbird on the feeder outside my kitchen window. I had quite a scramble to grab my camera, and battery out of the charger. Would I get the picture?? “Yes”–and I’m thrilled!! ~~ Moments ago, I added my sighting to the Hummingbird Migration Map. ~~ I love the Hummers!! I’ve planted flowers to attract them and my Bee Balm, Butterfly Bush, and others are loaded with buds almost ready to burst into bloom.

Honor the physical temple…

Honor the physical body (poster)

From your blogger lady friend that abuses her body weekly!! Yesterday, I dragged a fifty pound bag of bird seed* out of my KIA, dropped it on the hand-truck, wheeled the load to the storage building, maneuvered it over the threshold and rolled into location. Minutes later, I dragged a fifty pound bag of planter soil out of my KIA, yada, yada, yada. Later, I stirred a mix of coconut fiber and planter soil, and filled two large planters. Today, aches and pains!! One might say this old lady has too much garden?! In my defense: I’m growing a garden for “eating healthfully,” I’m “exercising,” and I’m “listening to [my] body’s needs.” Today I’ve a less strenuous schedule–because it’s raining!! 😉

*It has been ten days since I purchased the seed and soil. Birds wanted feed…. Too bad handyman David can’t be in a dozen places at once!!

Postscript: Rainy day–so I went shopping!! I browsed Lowe’s for a couple of hours. Then I grocery shopped (for a couple of hours)–and spent $105.00!! 😦

Postscript, Thursday, March 31st: Another rainy day so I went to the laundry room in the adjacent RV Park and did two loads. Now everything fresh and clean!! No in climate weather predicted for the next ten days so I’ll spend a lot of time in my yard–“exercising.” 🙂

Cicadas and Tent Caterpillars

Couldn’t sleep last night; I was trying to remember the name of an insect I experienced when I lived in Ohio. I got up and checked the Internet; Ask.com seems to have the answer when I have a question. Cicadas: That was the name that my memory could not recall. Here’s a couple of articles: Billions of cicadas to invade US east coast after seventeen years underground, and Cicada Mania.

What brought this to mind? Currently, we have an invasion of tent caterpillars. I found several articles on the Internet–dated 2015. “They” were not supposed to swarm again for years but here they are. According to a 2012 article: Mild winter results in … population boom. Well, we’ve had another mild winter and here they are!! Honestly, as I’ve done this Internet search, I think we have the Forest caterpillars. I haven’t seen any “tents” but the silk threads are fascinating. Last night (as I walked to square dance class) the silk threads were a unique sight at sunset.

OK, my questions were answered so I’ll go back to bed (at 4:40 AM). “Good night!!”

Postscript, Thursday, March 31, 2016, 4:40 PM: I just returned from the laundry room  in the adjacent RV Park. OMG!! The exterior of the building is covered with caterpillars!! Just walking from my car to laundry room, the disagreeable little worms were all over me!! The floor was covered with smashed worms because we were tracking them in from outside!! ~~ Thankfully, I have far fewer caterpillars at my RV site.

Home Clean Home !!

In my humble opinionIn my humble opinion, my home needs to be as attractive as the garden. Today my trailer home got a thorough scrubbing. Yesterday afternoon, and this morning, I moved the caster planters, and Garden Tower, a safe distance so they wouldn’t get too much water. I covered the planters with dandelion, lavender, and primrose seeds. The rain barrel was covered with plastic so soapy water wouldn’t drain off the awning into barrels. Hanging baskets were relocated. Of course–after the gentleman departed–I reversed the process and put planters back in their designated location.

He is Risen!

Dear Lorraine,

Resurrection Sunday is a time to Rejoice! Jesus paid a debt for us that no one else could ever pay so that we could be in heaven with Him for eternity. God gave the perfect sacrifice, His only Son, and if we believe in Him, then we will be forgiven and saved from our sins.

To be saved, you must believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for EVERYONE’S sins, including your own, and receive Him as your personal Savior so that one day you can be with our Heavenly Father. If you believe Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins, you will also need to admit you are a sinner – as we all are. Romans3:23 KJV says, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” If you have never confessed your sin and belief in Christ, take time to do it right now. Jesus is the only way to be saved from your sins and receive eternal life.

On the third day, he rose again from the dead. This is the Good News that Christians celebrate: His Resurrection! He is ALIVE! And one day our Savior will return. He, and only He, sets us free from our sins! “Jesus saith unto him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.’” John 14:6 KJV

The birth of Jesus is wonderful, but the resurrection is even more exciting. It is the finale to the Christmas story. Jesus accomplished what he came for. Jesus’ last words before dying on the cross were documented in John 19:30 as, “It is finished.” He knew that all was now completed and that Scripture would be fulfilled. To suggest that more needs to be done to earn your way to heaven is the same as saying Jesus died for nothing. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast.”  Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV

Nails were not what held Jesus to the cross. Jesus had the power to come down from that cross, but He knew this is what had to be done for His believers to be saved. He died on the cross for you and me because of His love for us. He loved us that much! “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV

If you know of someone who is not saved, please pass this on to them. Share the greatest gift of all with them: a relationship with Jesus Christ and eternal life. Also, share this with your brothers and sisters in Christ so they may use this to share with others. God commands that we share the gospel with others. We need to help one another become passionate followers of Jesus Christ.

Have a meaningful Holy Week and blessed Resurrection celebration!
Blessings,
