Mold in T@B – recap

Today–via an email message–I was reminded of the task I tackled this time last year. Much worse, IMHO, than laying thirty-seven pound cement paving blocks. Follow my experience by clicking on each link.

Time and temperatureThree PM and I’ve exchanged many email messages with a man suffering from ozone poisoning. Sending him information about cleaning toxic mold was important (to me) because killing the mold is only half the problem. Sadly, my new acquaintance is seriously ill from his exposure to ozone. ~ ~ ~ Caveat!! Beware!!

Researching solutions

My new acquaintance (Mark) indicates he used Charles Boday for his repair. So I did a Google search and find lots of websites for Charles Boday–nationwide. Here’s the first advertisement I read and I see the words–in red–NON-TOXIC.  “ONLY well-tested, non-toxic, multi-step, family safe system that lets you wipe out any Indoor Mold Threats.”

Next, I wanted to see the machine that, reportedly, does an outstanding job of eliminating… (yada, yada, yada). Here’s the Bi03-Blaster.

Then I checked the Internet for complaints. I found none but the company is not listed with the Better Business Bureau.

I found this interesting website which indicates that Charles Boday may be infringing on someone else’s original product/idea.

This is a challenge for me and I have a lot more reading to do. I feel this information should accompany (follow) Mold in T@B–Recap.

EcoQuest Air Purifiers — info from a layman

From Consumer Affairs Complaints website:

Lorraine of Shelby, NC on Feb. 21, 2009

I became a distributor for EcoQuest International several years ago. I believed the vast amount of information that they supplied the distributor(s) and the information discussed in the seminars, and conferences. I sold many units repeating the information I had been told. Recently I had a very bad experience with their top-of-the-line, Fresh Air unit (that sells for over $700.).

I’ve been sick for about six months. It started with an allergy to a cat I adopted. I had to give the cat away but couldn’t seem to clean thoroughly enough to get rid of the hair and dander. I started with one air purifier at highest setting trying to alleviate my allergy. That didn’t help so I turned on a second air purifier in one bedroom (because the cat had contaminated every inch of my apartment). As the months went by I got sicker and sicker!!

In December I had an expensive allergy test–but was told I had no allergies. I bought allergy remedies but they did not help. I used eye drops but that didn’t stop the itchy eyes. I read everything I could on allergies. I listened to segments of TV programs about allergies and asthma. On February 9th I was so desperate I sat at the computer and searched the Internet for an answer to my allergy or asthma symptoms. After reading many sites, and visiting many links associated with sites, I saw three little words and I immediately knew I found the answer. The three words ASTHMA and OZONE. I clicked the link and it opened up a world of information about the hazards of ozone poisoning.

I have been so extremely sick!! Now that I have turned off the air purifiers, I can breathe better. I don’t have the itchy eyes. I still cough and sneeze but not as often. I am slowly recovering from the ozone poisoning but it may take several months before I’m healthy again (according to the information that I have read, and documented, from the Internet). I was extremely surprised to find the number of complaints about EcoQuest when I found this website. I’m surprised… but I recognize that some of the complaints are valid.

I was a responsible distributor and provided information, and manuals, to my customers. I honored their request if they wanted to return a product. I know that there are distributors–in all businesses–that are only interested in the sale and not the service. I’m disheartened that EcoQuest home office did not assist the customers when they complained. This web site gave me a very different view of the company I–in good faith–have been representing.

John of Galloway, OH on March 18, 2009

I have had a Fresh Air machine for over a year. I love it. No more odors from the dog, the house smells fresh. I also have had the Laundry Pure machine for over a year. I was my clothes in cold water and no detergent. Amazing results. I do not understand some of the comments I have read here. I notice right away if someone turned off my Fresh Air machine. I love these products. You do have to start on a low setting and gradually increase the purifier. If you start too high, you may not like it. Start on the lowest setting and let the room adjust to the machine. I would hate to be without mine. I got my daughter one because her pet ferrets smell. The odor is gone. I know of a locker room that uses one to get rid of odors as well.

In response to John’s message of 3/18/09, I want to draw a present-day comparison. Natasha Richardson might have survived her fall on the ski slopes if she had been wearing a helmet. I might NOT have gotten acute ozone poisoning if I had reviewed the manual. Accidents happen!! Natasha was on the beginner slope; I am a seasoned EcoQuest distributor. I’ve been using EcoQuest air purifiers for years. I’ve talked up the benefits of odor control and allergy relief. It was an innocent mistake to crank up the units to 3000 square feet in a small apartment (but I was desperate to alleviate allergy symptoms). Please don’t miss the point in my 2/21/09 message: ACCIDENTAL acute ozone poisoning. Customers need to be aware of the hazard!!

The above comments followed the information I published to my blog and to the Internet.

If you check February 2009 blog messages, you will find several blogs detailing my struggle with ozone poisoning.

Here is the well-researched article I published to the Internet.

As far as I know, I have recovered from the ozone poisoning of 2009.  Because I practice holistic health, I rarely go to a doctor so I’ve never been tested for potential problems.

Seriously ??

Seriously!!

Twelve more blocks: Four hundred forty-four pounds (thirty-seven pounds each). In that blank area, I have a choice: Weeds, mud, or cement paving blocks. I prefer the latter.

With eight more blocks, I’ll have a nice round number: one hundred. The total expense (with 100) is less than $300.00. Another resident paid over $1500.00 (several years ago) to have a cement patio poured at their RV site.

The Green Thing

In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that plastic bags weren’t good for the environment. The woman apologized to her and explained, “We didn’t have the green thing back in my day.”

RecycleThat’s right, they didn’t have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they returned their milk bottles, Coke bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, using the same bottles over and over. So they actually were “recycled.”

But they didn’t have the green thing back in her day.

In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn’t have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn’t climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks.

Recycle, go greenBut she’s right. They didn’t have the green thing in her day.

Back then, they washed the baby’s diapers because they didn’t have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy-gobbling machine burning up 220 volts – wind and solar power did the drying. Kids often got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing.

But that old lady is right, they didn’t have the green thing back in her day.

Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house – not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a pizza dish, not a screen the size of the state of Montana. In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn’t have electric machines to do everything for them. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used wadded up newspaper to cushion it, not styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap.

Back then, they didn’t fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn’t need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity.

Recycle, to green (2)But she’s right, they didn’t have the green thing back then.

They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty, instead of using a plastic bottle or cup every time they had a drink of water. They refilled pens with ink, instead of buying new pens, and they replaced the blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull.

But they didn’t have the green thing back then.

Back then, people took the streetcar and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus, instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn’t need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from a satellite 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint.

Recycle, time to go greenBut they didn’t have the green thing back then!
