“Proofreader” on duty !!

Lately, there have been several TV news stories about artificial intelligence. “A I” has been at work transcribing public records, for Ancestry. This is NOT the first error I’ve observed.

.

My brain seems to have an uncanny knack for catching interesting information before my eyes see it (peripheral vision).

.

True story: I was NOT planning to spend the day researching on Ancestry. However, it is almost six PM and I have spent about ten hours researching and documenting… I was drawn back… because I wanted to “tie up loose ends.”

Discouraged and depressed !!

I received another obituary from “cousin” and I launched into the documentation of the individual, and the extended family. Without exaggeration, I’ve spent two days… because sources were impossible to locate. It was like searching for a needle in a haystack. It was so discouraging and I’m depressed because “cousin” now admits the information that accompanied the obituary “was wrong.”  Yes, I was “going in circles” because I can’t walk away from Ancestry until I’ve tied up all the loose ends.

“One small step…”

…in the enormous downsizing project.

.

During our extremely cold weather, I’ve been glued to the computer. I couldn’t walk away!! Mid-afternoon, I got to a “semi” stopping point and forced myself to complete an earlier project. A week (or more) ago, I moved the rack, with DVDs, to the porch. I thought a friend might be interested in the rack and DVDs. “No” everything is available via streaming.”  Being a beautiful afternoon, I stood on the porch, in the sunshine, and transferred the DVDs to a cardboard box. Eventually, they will go to a thrift shop. There are so many projects that should have my time and attention. However, I prefer to “climb trees.”

Pleasant surprise

Remember the quote from Forest Gump? I was documenting an obituary with the surnames of rather “beyond the norm” individuals. Suddenly the “Frantz” name leaped off the page and demanded my attention. Laura was already well-documented in my tree; I was able to add more pieces of information to the jigsaw of families.  A piece of the puzzle here, a piece of the puzzle there. Oh happy day!

Reminiscing

After I read an email message from an RVing friend, I went back to reminisce my RVing experiences.  The reader of this blog can maneuver backward and forward from this specific message from thirteen years ago. One obvious similarity: COLD. As I publish this (at 10:10 AM), the outdoor temperature is thirtyfive degrees and the icicles are melting.

After a two day detour…

This is a follow-up to the earlier message. The first image illustrates the numerous “hints” in need of attention. The second image reveals the hints were investigated and sources were saved. Dozens of individuals…, hundreds of sources. ~~ More obituaries are waiting for my attention. They “piled up” when I was too sick to focus on computer genealogy.
