A silk purse from a sow’s ear

Have you heard that old expression about making a silk purse from of a sow’s ear? I like to think that I’m creative and turn a piece of junk into an art object. Debatable?! Remember the “masterpiece” I built in North Carolina? I’m still using it today. Here are last year’s Begonias in the planter base, and Petunias in hanging baskets.

Well not an “art piece” but the use of “junk” for a trellis.

(Above left) See the twin-bed-frame leaning against the tree? Now it will serve as a trellis for Scarlet Runner Beans. How about that cart as a trellis for “Tommy” tomato plant?? Now I can navigate the plant between sunshine and shade.

Shelter (3)What do you think of the shelter I built to protect my perennial plants during the winter?

Humidity

Here is an explanation of humidity.

Smiley face sweatingI wasn’t looking for such a detailed explanation; I only wanted to know if 65% is “high.” Yes, we have sixty-five percent at two o’clock in the afternoon–and the outdoor temperature is eighty-six. Indoors: Eighty-eight degrees. I have a fan oscillating in the kitchen/dining area but concede that I may have to turn on the air-conditioner for the first time this year. It is oppressively HOT!! I’m so lethargic, I can hardly move!!

Just thought you might like to know.

Philosophy for Old Age

Philosophy for old age.

Full screen symbolI received as an email… and had to search the Internet for a form I could share with you. When you have the YouTube web link, open it so you have “full screen.” (That little box in the lower far right corner of the display.)

The pictures are exquisite (IMHO). The message is great, too!! Enjoy!!

Below is one of my favorites. Wish I could have made it larger. I’m computer savvy but sometimes I fail to accomplish the goal I have in mind. 😦  True example: I wish the “full screen” image was smaller; I wish the picture was larger. I spent a lot of time trying to achieve both–to no avail.

Great picture, great message

Dr. Oz has my support !!

Dr. OzPerhaps you have read negative statements regarding Dr. Oz and/or seen television reports. Personally, I feel Dr. Oz has been extremely brave to reveal major food problems created by major manufacturers, and health problems caused by pharmaceuticals. There are many medical doctors that support his recommendations. Find holistic health practitioners on the Internet, and read their books available in Health Food stores. Of course, “the industry” doesn’t want us to reject synthetic sweeteners, etc., etc. It’s in their best interest to push genetically modified organisms (GMO) and irradiated foods, etc., etc.

Some of my readers know I have been following a holistic lifestyle for decades. My earliest blog messages are full of recommendations. I have published many links to articles on Natural News. Sadly, I have been “a voice crying in the wilderness.” Very few take my health habits seriously. On the positive side, I’m quite healthy for “three quarters and counting” (80 years old). Please do homework/research before you accept the media’s  criticism of Dr. Mehmet Oz.

This blog reaches a small audience but it is important to me to declare my support of the courageous TV doctor. ~~ Perhaps you will join me and

Oppose the DARK act denying your right to know.

Postscript, Sunday, April 26, 2015: Another story regarding Dr. Oz. A “good” one, of course.

The “juggler”

In an effort to place my plants in their appropriate permanent location, I keep “juggling” planters. Today, I think I moved the cucumber planter for the last time. (Hey, it’s heavy!!)  After raking the area where the bed frame sat for fourteen months, I dug a hole and inserted a planter–with the bottom cut out. That is the location for the second planter with Scarlet Runner Beans. The major location is next to the bed frame turned trellis. (The Scarlet Runner Bean may not thrive in the shade of the trees but no investment lost if it dies.) I am obsessive-compulsive about using the “yard stuff” hauled from North Carolina–and acquired since…. “Use it or lose it.”

My backyard neighbor should have no further complaints about the view from her living room windows.

I’m working ahead of the next storm. We’ve already had a few sprinkles and 30% rain predicted for today. Tomorrow will be a major storm with tornado warnings.

How soon will I have new neighbors

In a manner of speaking, I live in a fish bowl. I see so much of the activity that goes on in my corner of the world. Suddenly I was aware that a resident’s trailer–in storage–was getting ready to leave. Out came the camera. When I saw the sliding door was open, I jumped and ran to assist. (“Busy body”??) ~~ The resident couple that owned the beautiful new forty-foot “park model” died last year in a local convalescent home. Living, as I do, in an assisted-living community, I know people with major health problems. I’ve lost count of the number of residents who have passed away in the eighteen and one-half months I’ve lived here. (My former next-door neighbors [after selling their trailer] are en-route to an apartment, in Florida, with a higher level of assisted-living.)

I had a dream last night

Between 2:00 AM and 5:00 AM I had a very vivid dream. Usually we don’t remember dreams but this one is indelible on my mind. So graphic, I got up and started typing the details (at 5:00 AM). I recognized the area as the Antelope Valley, North Los Angeles County, California. I lived there for so many years; the area and the terrain are familiar. But it could be the desert of Prineville or Madras, Oregon, as I remember them from my youth. Or it could be some location here in Texas that I am unfamiliar with and have yet to visit.

It was a makeshift little community of old and new buildings, nothing fancy. (No building codes here.) I specifically remember the people: Old people, young people, “bikers,” truckers, homeless…. The homeless were given food, and a blanket, and shown a place to sleep. Oh yes, there were stores full of merchandise but the customer was allowed to take the items without payment.

It was all so vivid: Everyone was radiating “love.” Lots of people, lots of activity going on, but no fighting, no loud words. I did not perceive the community to be a religious commune. Just ordinary people.

I was quickly involved with the activities; I was a worker; I was part of “the team.” I was accepted; I wasn’t an “outsider.” Always: The warmth of “love.” I had energy for the projects assigned to me; I wasn’t tired.

It may have only been a brief dream (because I’m told that dreams are short) but it was so “real” and I was an integrated part of it.

Let me digress: How beautiful Heaven must be!! I believe we will experience unconditional love. I, for one, have experienced very little true love in my lifetime. Last night, my subconscious mind may have been groping for the thing that has been absent in my life. Maybe?? (No sympathy, please. I’m just commenting.)

There it is, the dream as I remember it. I won’t make any further comments.
