So-o-o-o, in the heat and humidity, I pulled weeds, cut “dead head” flowers, took pictures, rearranged planters, etc., etc. Perspiration was pouring off me but no more excuses, get it done!!
Old lady gardener made a special trip to Lowe’s for tubing. We had drenching rain that forced me to spend an hour browsing the store (and impulse purchases). Still raining at 4:30 so I can’t install….
An hour later, project completed.
The extreme weather, in other locations, is not lost on me. I weep as I see the devastation portrayed on television. I count my blessings!!
We have experienced torrential rain off and on all afternoon!! I expected four inches in the gauge (seriously).
The thermometer may say seventy-six degrees, delightfully cool, but ninety-two percent humidity drives this old lady indoors. I’m still working with “evacuation preparedness” bags and contents. Actually, a good time to sort, discard and/or donate.
Texas accounts for one-third of the United States’ medal count. Not to fuel the flames of Texit, but if we were our own country, we’d be good for tenth place, beating out Germany and Canada and scoring more medals than Spain, Brazil, Belgium, Greece, and Argentina combined. Here are our great state’s winners, with a necessary shout-out to the Dallas Morning News for their helpful Texas medal tracker:
The aforementioned Biles won gold in team gymnastics along with Dallasite Madison Kocian. Biles won the all-around individual event too. (She’s quite literally the greatest.) Rio’s been good to Texas Simones, it seems. Her fellow Houston-area Simone, Manuel, won gold in the 100-meter freestyle and silver in the 4×100 meter relay.
Texas took care of business in the pool. University of Texas swimmers Jack Conger, Townley Haas, and Clark Smith all helped the men’s 4X200 freestyle relay team win gold, and University of Texas alum Jimmy Feigen won gold in the 4X100 freestyle relay. Abilene native David Boudia won silver in men’s ten-meter platform synchronized diving.
On the women’s side of the water, Granbury High School grad Dana Vollmer won silver in the women’s 4X100 freestyle relay and earned a bronze all by herself in the 100-meter butterfly. That’s quite an impressive haul considering Vollmer gave birth to her first child 17 months ago, making her the second-ever American mom to medal in the Olympics. Katie Meili, of Carrollton, won bronze in the 100-meter breast stroke.

During a visit to my doctor, I asked him, “How do you determine whether or not an older person should be put in an old age home?”

Lorraine here: This message has been stored since April 28, 2016. The fact that I published it today is an indication that #1) I’m bored, #2) there isn’t anything interesting in my life to write about, #3) the camera is broken, or #4) it’s raining and I can’t work in the garden.
It began to rain while CARE residents were enjoying their evening meal yesterday. Sporadic, not continual rain. This first picture hastily taken during a quick check of my yard and plants. Hallelujah, a day when I don’t need to spend two hours watering thirsty plants!!
Please, “pretty please,” not a roof leak!! Not another BIG expense on top of air-conditioner purchase. Within weeks after I purchased this trailer (2014), I needed a new roof. Too soon (imho) for another repair.
But (imho) it comes with a price!!
So many outdoor projects have been neglected!! Neighbors have returned from a one-month motorhome trip; time to return Shirley’s ladder. In an effort to prevent theft of the ladder (again) I added her name for identification. Likewise, my name on my recently acquired (from a yard sale) ladder.
I followed directions and chose to spray (with Fels-Naptha) the wasp nest first thing this morning (or late evening recommended). No wasps in the new trap. ~~ Then I started the project inserting screen on the vent door. I’ll complete… in the comfort of my air-conditioned home.
Postscript, same day, 2:30 PM: This crazy old lady gardener made a special trip to Livingston for a short piece of plastic tubing. She’s eager to get the fountain going!! Home again and picture taken to document the heat and humidity. Last picture illustrates “faux pas.”
