Transfer pending

At 5:42 PM, I completed the download of LapLink and will (quite possibly) attempt (tomorrow) to transfer data from the old laptop computer to the new desktop computer. Right now, brain overload!!
Today, I had to mentally process volumes of new information.

For the record (in case you are curious), I’ve had the cable for transfer but (unfortunately) it didn’t come with software. Thus a download from the Internet.  Researching information–on the Internet–has been extremely valuable!

The current story of my life !!

My 2020  frustrations: “Where is it?”

I can’t find things that were packed in Livingston and stored in mysterious locations in Waco. This evening I can’t find my blog on my new computer. I used it earlier this evening but it is hidden in some mysterious location on Windows-10. After a diligent search, I found Picasa on the new computer. I had intended to publish all the pictures previously discussed but not displayed.  Maybe tomorrow?

Day of rest !!

This message will be the extent of my computer time today. I’m going to Church with new friends, neighbors here in the RV Park. I need to clear my head of questions relating to the computers (after a restless night). This afternoon I’ll concentrate on “domestic” tasks.

“The hurrier I go, the behinder I get”

The new computer purchase is posing problems!! Gratefully, one-by-one I resolved hardware frustration. Then “How do I connect to the Internet?”  Eventually, I figured that out. (No instructions with the new computer.) “What, no Windows-10?”  I was still trying to find Windows-10 on my new desktop computer when new friends/residents stopped by. When I asked, “Do you know computers?”  I was told, “no, but I know someone who is brilliant with computers.”  During that conversation, I learned Windows-10 is no longer supported by Microsoft. OMG, this old lady is “a day late and a dollar short”  and/or “The hurrier I go the behinder I get.”  I’m trying to improve my computer equipment so I can be more productive but I see that I have only complicated my life!! ~~ Suggestions appreciated!! ~~

My head is spinning !!!!

I have three computers “on” at this moment (3:30 PM). Hopefully, I will enjoy a successful download of Windows-10 on the new desktop computer. The oldest laptop computer is poised to download LapLink software. (I won’t try two downloads on my WiFi at the same time.) Laplink will need to be downloaded onto the new computer, too, prior to my transfer of programs, and files, from the old laptop. Pray with me that all this maneuvering will happen successfully. I’m writing this on the “newer” laptop and I’m so grateful for its availability. (Typing this while [eagle-eye] watching the other two computers.) I have needed to search the Internet for information about (1) setup of the new desktop computer (because no instructions), (2) information about Windows-10, (3) information about LapLink. Perhaps a couple other steps that I’ve forgotten (?) because “my head is spinning”  with computer details. Believe me, if all this happens without a glitch, it will be a miracle.

Update at 5:00: I watched the Windows-10 download for one-hour-thirty-five minutes. However, after all that time NO WINDOWS-10.

If at first you don’t succeed…

…try, try again.

A second attempt to download Windows-10 was unsuccessful. Another hour and eight minutes “watching” the download. I paid for this download–with an activation key. It’s 7:30 PM and far less has been accomplished (today) than I anticipated.  I’ll wait for another day when I can “try” again and also attempt to facilitate the transfer of programs and data from the “old” laptop. I’m particularly anxious to see if I can transfer Picasa and regain the ability to upload pictures from my Canon camera.

This is what I ordered from Walmart. I interpret that to indicate Windows-10 was installed.

Black History Month

On a TV program, the name of Ruby Bridges came up. She was a six-year-old black girl walking into the previously all-white William Frantz Elementary School. I wrote about the details in a blog message on August 16, 2017. This was the second time in sixteen days that Ruby Bridges and William Frantz came to my attention. I was contacted by a descendant of William Frantz seeking additional information. If the reader clicks the first link (above) it will take you to the blog message that required hours of research but has many frustrating links. I explained my frustration… and apologized to the descendant because I couldn’t supply information. (I don’t have a subscription to the Newspaper website. Money, money, money!!)

FYI: The contact came as a comment on an earlier blog message.

“Flooding in Danville, Virginia,”  mentioned on the early morning TV news. I spent a couple of weeks with “cousins” (in Danville) while doing Frantz family research (Frantz ancestors in Virginia). I think that was in 2003 and prior to my preparation of blog messages. I remember it fondly as a remarkable experience and worthy of a blog message but I haven’t enough hours in the day (lol).

On the off-chance I mentioned Daleville in an earlier blog message, I searched my earlier blogs. Yes, I had two earlier blogs prior to this one. Check In My Humble Opinion and Tab Teardrop Trailer Travels.

Snow in my yard !!

Sadly, I can’t include pictures of the indoor-outdoor thermometer (twenty-six degrees) and snow in my yard. I feel so handicapped when I can’t add pictures to my blog messages.  😦

Speaking of “handicap”: I have a brace on my right wrist because “too much computer” I’ve spent so much time “climbing the family tree,” my wrist repeatedly sends a painful message.  😦

Ten-forty-five in the morning and I finally figured out a way to “get” my pictures. I’m on the “newer” laptop computer (not the new computer) and the process was too complicated to explain. My life just got a lot more complicated regarding computers. Perhaps the mental gymnastics will keep me young?  🙂

Complicated life ?!

Question: Do I complicate my life?

Yesterday, I had to contact the company because I didn’t receive a keyboard with my new computer purchase “bundle.” This morning I began the process of setting up the monitors with the CPU. No instruction sheet came with the items!! However, I’ve been working with computers since 1987 and I’m reasonably familiar with “set up.” I went to the Internet for assistance and learned about the “splitter” that is required when using two monitors. Another phone call to the company and a conversation with (imho) a customer service person who knows less than me. So she will send out a splitter.

My voice doesn’t carry very far but I’m screaming at the top of my lungs. Don’t buy a computer–online–from Walmart because you may end up with an inferior product and communicate with individuals with an accent, who are difficult to understand.

I will be forced to learn a new Windows operating system and a new photo program. I’ve used Picasa for years but it is no longer supported by Microsoft. My Canon camera and Picasa are not communicating!! ~~ As I said in the earlier message: “Perhaps the mental gymnastics will keep me young?”

Are you curious about how I got the snow picture from the Canon to the blog message? I took the SD card out of the Canon and hoped my “old” laptop would “read” it and upload the pictures to Picasa. No, the old computer couldn’t read the SD card. Gratefully, the newer laptop read the SD card and displayed the pictures. Not certain what to do with them, I agreed with “their” suggestion to save to Windows Photos. But I couldn’t find a way to crop, or add text, or add an image to my blog. I sent that one picture to a folder and was able to retrieve it for my blog. Pray with me that I can find a simple way to preserve my pictures and display them on my blog.

My “old” laptop has been “old faithful.” It has processed thousands of pictures and hundreds of blog messages. I acknowledge that it is worn-out and due for retirement. The “new” desktop computer will (hopefully) assume the job and give me years of good service.

Zero kind of day !!

Nothing of merit accomplished today.

.

Almost the entire day spent doing computer things. No “climbing the family tree.”  Time spent setting up computer hardware; time spent searching the Internet for photo editing software (to replace Picasa). Repeat: Nothing of merit accomplished today.

I’m depressed so I ate a BIG bowl of ice cream. It’s only seven-twenty PM but I’m so depressed I want to go to bed and cover my head.
