Summer Sunday
On my soapbox !!
Yours truly is lethargic from extreme heat (weather). Are fellow Ancestry researchers too lethargic to search for sources? I’m not bragging (about my sources); I’m declaring the fact! First image (below) shows my data yesterday. Second image is my data, today at 3:00 PM. *EUREKA?* They don’t want to spend hours collecting data? Find another gripe further down in this message.

With one exception, everyone had the birth date but no other data. A search provided this tombstone. We can’t read a birth date but death date is obvious and initials of the parents reveal her identity.
I suspected her name was misspelled. Years ago, one of my genealogy instructors (George Schweitzer) told of standing in another room and shouting a name to his wife. “What did you hear?” What the census taker heard is often the way the name was spelled (“France” for Frantz, “Near” for Neher). It is my belief some Census takers simply could not spell “Jeremiah” or “Lydia.” I’m using lessons from thirty years ago as I enjoy “armchair research.”
Sadder Saturday ?!
This brightened my day !!

Believe it or not, it is relaxing to shift from Ancestry to the preparation of a blog message. Every day I say I’m not going to spend time “climbing the family tree” but it draws me like a magnet!! I’ve been documenting individuals listed in obituaries (forwarded from a cousin), One surname leads to another, and another (infinitum). Whenever possible, I attach a web link to the family history I published in 1996. Alice Frantz (image on the top right) “popped up” today so I’m in the process of building her branch of the tree. (Those “Frantz” women show up in the most unexpected places.) I say “brightened my day” because I was skeptical of some information. Finding information in the 1900 Federal Census was a goldmine: All her children from two marriages (image number four). I have five more sources than “top of the list other guy” (image number five) and I haven’t even begun to research and document her children.

“Fry” day Friday !!
Terrific Thursday ???
If “terrific,” I’ll have to apply significant determination. I’m tired beyond tired!!
.
Today’s topic is “tree talk.” Many hours spent documenting this man’s family (above). That’s the finished display in Ancestry. “The other guys” (a bunch of nuts) had an illogical combination of information. I “hung in there” (on that branch of the tree) until details were accurate. Below see one of his four marriages. I find a surprise around every corner!! Her mother was a “Frantz.” Note how our relationship changed after I merged her parents into my database. No picture but the fourth wife (Laura Miller) is my third-cousin two-times-removed. (Click the images to enlarge for better viewing.)

Terrible turn of events. After all the hours spent “researching” I “stumbled” on an Internet publication with the entire family listed. Rhetorical question: “Why wasn’t that source listed with family members?” (Well, it is NOW!!)
