Six hours away from home–in and out of extreme heat. Between doctor appointments and grocery shopping, I was in the car hot as an oven.
And, OMG, the miserable heat radiating up from asphalt parking lots!! Oh, so grateful for my cool and comfortable air-conditioned home.

Yet another Friday the 13th !!
If this blog message looks familiar… it is!!
.

Exactly nine months ago, the Escapees CARE Center served a meal “unfit for human consumption.” Without exception, residents complained about the meal. Two days later, I passed a clipboard for signatures of dissatisfied residents. On Monday, October 16th, the Facility Director instructed me to look for some other place to live. My nightmare experience of October, November and December is documented on the website Escapees don’t CARE Center.
Sad & glad !!
“Glad” that I am capable of doing projects and maintenance. This old lady was down on her bony knees to remove the UPS and swap the attached cords. This was prompted because the UPS failed (?) and caused a computer problem. (Can’t have computer problems!!) ~~ “Sad” because a handyman declined doing my listed projects because “not worth his time.” He contacted me a month ago indicating he’d be available in July–so I started a list of things he could do (that I can’t do): Trim tree limbs, secure gutters drooping from roof (on the ladder projects), replace hose fittings (because I haven’t strength to force hose sections on fitting), etc., etc.
Furthermore, transplant a little cedar tree although not the appropriate time of year to transplant. (The clay soil is difficult digging.) It is too close to the path, and too attractive to cut down. I thought I was doing him a favor (he contacted me) but he said not worth his time to drive from his home (twenty miles?). ~~ Do I have leprosy, bad breath, body odor?? My “RV” repairman, Jim, has not returned to work on my RV-refrigerator repair.
Below, see Purple Shamrock in all its glory. Many visitors admired the plant , conspicuous on my patio in previous years. I believed the plant was dead because no sign of life this Spring. Recently, I dumped the planter soil into this large planter. Today I saw the new growth. Little things (like this) make me very happy!!
Because of recent thunder showers, I have not been in the yard for five days (no need to water [lol]). I’ve devoted days to the family history research project, and only left the trailer to go to the refrigerator in the laundry room.
I’m obsessive-compulsive when trying to resolve a genealogy mystery. This one has me pulling my hair, and losing sleep at night!!
Hours “doing” family history !!
“Thank you” faithful followers of my blog !!
Ouch, that hurts !!
How often have I referred to my life as “boring”? I’ll take my uneventful existence versus the experience documented on this link . No hint.
Yesterday–& today–“family history” !!
Below, read the details of research yesterday scribbled while eating quickly heated soup, while without Internet connection. Today I’ll try to tie-up all the loose ends.
My life has been quite boring for many months. Relocation has forced me to spend hours attempting to “get settled” again. The genealogy project was abandoned; the Digitized Library of Family History ignored. I confess that “I love genealogy.” When I’m on Ancestry, or Family Search, I lose track of time; I spend hours adding records to the Frantz family tree. Very unexpectedly I launched into another project simply because I received a brief email message complimenting me on “Tepid Turkey,” a story published in July 2018 Mennonite Family History.
First I answered the email and informed the individual of another story in the forthcoming issue of Mennonite Family History. Then I double-checked the link to Digitized Library. That prompted me to check other links within the Library (for validity) which led to the Millersville University website and the “Frantz Family Letters.” I don’t remember previously visiting that resource and I’ve never seen the Frantz letters. I read them with interest and recognized surnames that belong to my “tree.”
Next: A search in Ancestry for the name “Letitia Frantz.” Quickly I had valuable information about her parents, siblings, her birth (1858), death (1931), profession: physician, interred in Longenecker Reformed Mennonite Cemetery, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Documenting her parents, and grandparents, was relatively simple and, as I suspected, the lineage (tentatively) goes back to Immigrant Christian Frantz, brother of my Immigrant Michael Frantz. (I say “tentatively” because I’m still documenting her ancestry.)
All day at the computer; I didn’t stop to eat until a severe thunderstorm (3:25 PM) interfered with Internet reception. During the day I searched every available pertinent “leaf” (hint) displayed in Ancestry. I’m very selective about the information I add to my database. I found “suspect” information and ignored it. I hasten to say we have repetition of given names in the Frantz family; many men named Christian, Michael, John, Jacob, Henry, David, and Daniel.
Almost without interruption, twelve hours later, I was reading additional details about the correspondence between Letitia and her family. This is interesting and worth checking the Internet link to “Millersville Meets the Women’s Medical College” in Friends Folio Newsletter, Spring 2007. My day started, and ended, with Letitia Frantz, daughter of Andrew M. Frantz and Esther C. Landis.
Back again after wasting an hour on My Heritage website. It’s 10:30 AM and I’m still searching for more information regarding Letitia Frantz. She did not appear (or I missed her?) on fifty pages (with twenty per page) of really boring information. Many duplicates and scanty details; tombstones appear to be the source of a lot of the information (including my parents). Perhaps I’m missing valuable information but I don’t want to subscribe to another genealogy website. ~~
I’ve exhausted all my options and must conclude there is no biographical sketch of Letitia Frantz. A friend emailed me suggesting I may be spending too much time sitting in one position and its taking a toll on my health.
Obsessive-compulsive: I couldn’t walk away!! I returned to My Heritage and signed up for “free” entrance (but was forced to use my credit card). What a scam!! They directed me to Family Search –a totally “free” website. With a tidbit of information I returned to Ancestry and did a couple searches. I found promising information (but not entirely substantiated). At 1:00 PM, I was sobbing because I located a valuable article and I direct you to Pioneer John Frantz on my Ancestry tree. (Here’s the web link if you have a subscription to Ancestry: https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/51857223/person/252021725239/story .) Why was I sobbing? The article was written by “cousin” Dwayne Wrightsman and he made reference to information I published in Frantz Families–Kith & Kin. In conclusion: Letitia Frantz probably is a leaf on the same family tree but I do not have confirmation. Find her pedigree on Family Search.
