Where the wind blows

I started my morning with this obituary for Glenna M. Royer and it led to the display you see below. True story: I didn’t have a single one of those individuals in my database. I “knew” the Royer surname and I “knew” she was “extended family.” I’ll go back and document the sources behind all those green “hints.” I started with the “Royer” surname and visited a dozen other surnames. Along the route, I visited the “tree” of a cousinand she has 278,175 carefully documented individuals. (Perhaps she is addicted to family history the way I am addicted to family history?)

Desperate !!

esperate

I feel so helpless; I’m “desperate” to “feel better.” Why is this health problem (allergy?) so persistent? I get up in the morning but I don’t want to get up in the morning. I went to bed last nightbefore nineand you’d thinkafter nine hours in bedI’d be raring to go. Go? “No!”

Today & yesterday

True story: It took all day, yesterday, to document the individuals in this obituary. Beyond the names you see, a multitude of extended family members. An obituary is a “gold mine” of valuable information. ~~ I’ll probably spend today on the computer while watching and listening to TV worship services.

One of my prayer requests

“Dear Heavenly Father, please protect me from slipping into senility or Alzheimers.”

My brain is so full of information that I don’t want to forget. Here’s a strange one: RA56206562. That’s the Army ID for my former husbandsixty-five years ago.

My favorite topic: Genealogy. I remember surnamesand correspondencefrom thirty-plus years ago. It is so helpful when I’m “climbing the family tree” on Ancestry.com.

Current affairs: Shawn Whiteat the Olympicsfailed in his bid for another metal. Here’s an interesting story about Shaun’s family. I consulted the Internet because my brain mistakenly identified his family with an ice cream business in New Hampshire. I was reminiscing about my visit in New Hampshire in 2010.  Oops, “wrong snowboarder.” A Google search produced a story about Scotty Lagoand his father had an ice cream business. OK, OK, my memory was confused about snowboarders.

LifeintheslowlaneLorraine is grateful for her many blessings and prays she doesn’t “lose her mind.”

.

Postscript @ 8:00 AM; afterthought: I wasn’t watching the Olympics–I heard about Shaun’s loss on the news.

The Biden Interview (did you see it?)

For decades, NBC was my TV channel of choice. They are broadcasting the Olympics and I’m not watching NBC or the Olympics.

From a Mike Huckabee newsletter.

The Biden Interview:

President Biden gave an interview to NBC’s Lester Holt, and it did not go well. Most critics are talking about how he confused Ukraine, Iraq and Afghanistan in one sentence.

Others are remarking on how he called Holt a “wise guy” for daring to ask about inflation, one of the most serious problems facing Americans.

But I could overlook both of those things. What makes me worry that he’s suffering cognitive decline was his comments about Russia and Afghanistan.

When asked if he rejected the conclusions of a US Army report on how badly his Administration botched the withdrawal from Afghanistan and how poorly prepared they were, Biden said, “Yes, I am.” To clarify, Holt asked, “So they’re not true?” Biden replied, “I’m rejecting them.”

That seems to imply that whether they’re true or not, he simply rejects them. I’ve long believed that rejecting reality was the basis of all Democrat policy, but I’ve never heard the party’s leader state it so emphatically.

Even more worrisome was a statement on Russia that implies he’s learned nothing from his Afghanistan debacle. Biden declared that if Russia invaded Ukraine, he wouldn’t send troops to rescue Americans because that could trigger a world war and “things could go crazy quickly.” Asked if there was no scenario where he would send troops to rescue Americans, Biden said (and this no surprise to anyone who paid attention to what he didn’t do in Afghanistan), “There’s not. That’s a world war when Americans and Russia start shooting at one another.”

As Nick Arama at Redstate.com points out, this is Strategery 101. Even if you don’t plan to send troops, you don’t tell Russia in advance that there’s no way you would ever send troops if they invaded. Why not just send Ukraine a giant Welcome mat to put on their border for the Russian Army to wipe their boots on before they come in?

Speaking of being foolish, Biden said that if Putin is “foolish enough to go in, he’s smart enough not to, in fact, do anything that would negatively impact on American citizens.” So we can trust the guy who’s invading Ukraine not to hurt any of our people, just like we could trust the new kinder, gentler, more reasonable Taliban? Well, yes, because Biden said he told Putin that — but then said he didn’t have to.

If these aren’t the words of someone with a mental problem, then he must be so sick of the job that he’s trying to get removed via the 25th Amendment.

Second small step…

The lack of a reliable phone is a burden I’m discarding. A dear friend has been making suggestions; I’ve spent hours on the Internet checking cell phones–and service. Jitterbug/Great Call/Lively (they have changed several times in the eight years I have been a customer) has not acknowledged the message I sent on their website under “contact us.” ~~ I’ve signed up for Google phone service and I didn’t even know that Google provided phone service!! ~~ Today, I’m considering a scathing criticism (for Consumer Reports?) regarding the poor service for seniors by Lively. By the time I get the new phone activated, I’ll probably think “why bother?”  (For me, it takes a lot of “energy” to approach problemsand companiesso why spend “energy” I don’t have.)
