Another postscript

“The old lady”  feels like she has been put through a wringer!! After almost endless searches… it was agonizingly difficult to renew the website. “They” have my money but the website hasn’t been restored yet (too soon?) For an eighty-five-year-old I think I’m juggling too many things!! I repeat an earlier statement: “I need to clone myself.”

Hunkering down ?!

The NBC Today Show did a segment about “hunkering down” during this Coronavirus panic season. Apparently, some people are bored because so many establishments are closed. Me? No, I’m not “bored” because I’ve got trees to climb. I’m **NOT** going to the delightful, wonderful, regular Saturday morning breakfast (here in the RV Park) because “old folks” are the more vulnerable (and I’m the oldest member of this community).

If I catch the virus–and die from the virus–people can say “She died ‘connecting families’ on Ancestry,”

When the sun came out…

…Lorraine went out!!

It’s 10:10 and the bird feeders are full (and I’m out of seed until my next shopping trip), Hummingbird nectar was prepared (this morning) and Hummingbird feeder filled and hung in a conspicuous location. (No picture [yet].) The Internet was consulted for the Hummingbird migration map. Apparently, no Hummingbirds sited in Texas (yet) but I am ready for them. At a later date, I’ll hang additional Hummingbird feeders.

One more frustration: “Where’s it?” Every day I am questioning where an item is located. This morning, I looked for the glass half-gallon container used to store the extra Hummingbird nectar. It wasn’t located inside my new home so I checked the storage unit. That is a disaster waiting for time and attention. But not today!! I closed the door and walked away. I need a strong man to lift–and shift–the boxes!!

No miracle ?!

Wide awake half the night. I repeatedly said: “Go to sleep, go to sleep.”  I was “up” several times for a drink of water, and a trip to the bathroom. I have a variety of sleep aids: Lavender essential oil sprinkled on my pillow, Philip Stein sleep bracelet, and “sound machine.”  Occasionally, I take an over-the-counter sleep aid like ZzzQuil. “Yes,”  I have coffee (but I gotta make it).

Detective at work !!

Couldn’t sleep!! Armed with a mug of coffee, “the old lady” started climbing the family tree. Yup, I was driven to locate the accurate information regarding a woman I documented yesterday. She was the second marriage and appeared with her husband’s surname. In my database, I have a total of 671 women named Elizabeth and 15 named Elizabeth Miller. Everyone with an Ancestry Member Family Trees had conflicting information. “In my gut” I knew their information was inaccurate so I searched diligently…. Yes, her maiden name is Miller (and I have 483 individuals named Miller in my database).

“If at first I don’t succeed, try try again.”

A miracle ?

“The old lady” enjoyed twelve hours of sleep!! Remarkable!! The clock in the corner of the TV picture, on the Today show, said “8:15.” That was twelve hours after going to bed. Honestly, “the old lady” cannot remember an uninterrupted night’s sleep. Usually, one or two trips (each night) to the bathroom–and hours awake.

Now, with my mug of coffee, I’ll approach neglected projects indoors. It is a dark cloudy morning; rain is dripping off the edge of the roof.

Changing the subject radically: A neighbor interrupted the preparation of this message because he wants details about emergency supplies. He is in a panic-mode about running out of food during the Coronavirus crisis. Yesterday evening, he shopped… and spent more than $300.00 at a local grocery store. At 7:00, this morning, he was back at that store for more groceries (and rejected telling me how much he spent). Now he is headed to Sam’s Club and will be there when it opens at 10:00. ~~ I gave him the website address for My Patriot Supply and he plans to order from them. (I have a three month supply from My Patriot Supply [ordered several years ago] but the boxes are buried in the jam-packed, disorganized storage unit.) ~~~~ Personally, I haven’t been concerned. Should I? ~~~~ Are you concerned?? Share your thoughts?

.

It’s almost eleven o’clock and I’m back after an hour-long phone conversation with a friend in Livingston (she called me). OMG!! She was an encyclopedia of information about events in my former-home RV Park. I asked her about her concern about the Coronavirus. I find that I am an ostrich with my head in the sand. “Friend” has much more information because she watches and listens to better(?) news sources.

ADDition ADDiction

“The old lady” can’t stay away from documenting her extended “family” on Ancestry.com. It’s an escape from the overwhelming tasks demanding attention (recent move). She’d love to lavish attention on children and grandchildren….

.

It is impossible to walk away from Ancestry!! There isn’t a  “stopping point”!! Since the previous portion of this message, I have added forty-nine (49) more individuals (with five to fifteen “sources” of information for each individual). It’s almost eight PM “spring forward” time and I think I’ll go to bed early. I didn’t get much sleep last night. Hopefully, a good night’s sleep tonight?! Starting tomorrow, I want to “spring forward” and tackle neglected tasks.

Aggravation !!

In my new home, in Waco, a couple of months ago, I was “shopping” the Amazon website–and was given a “free” trial for Prime. This morning I suddenly remembered I need to cancel the “free” membership (before March 9th). Well “they” make it virtually impossible to cancel. I’m computer and Internet literate but it took more than half-an-hour to eventually find the required location. “They” wouldn’t just cancel, “they” offered half a dozen incentives to encourage me to stay–but I finally canceled.

Personally, I long for a simpler life. When I phoned because I had problems with my new WiFi and TV reception, I had to go through an automated system. When I needed to activate my new ATM card for my new Bank account, I had to go through an automated system twice. I’m still baffled by features of Windows-10.  ~~ My cell phone isn’t holding a charge and I don’t know where to go for a new battery. I don’t know shopping areas in Waco–and the traffic is terrible on major routes. True story: I did not drive my KIA during the month of February!!

Let me carry my aggravation one step further. I bought a new television set which is larger than I need (but “small” TVs not available?). The speakers are on the back of the thin TV set and difficult to clearly hear conversations. Fortunately, I have a “sound bar” (from Livingston) but it has been almost impossible to set up as an extension speaker.

Off to a good start ?!

“If at first you don’t succeed, try try again.”  I had a question in my mind: “Can I take the SD card out of the camera and upload pictures to Picasa?”  Yes, that works so here is a picture taken a few minutes ago and one from a couple of days ago. I’ll get out in the sunshine and fill the feeders with dry birdseed. ~~ Depression is gone; I’m anticipating a very good Thursday!!
