Cruising from Galveston, Texas
High noon !!

So glad the suitcase has rollers!! Bet it weighs fifty pounds!! I’m “ready to roll.” This time tomorrow, we should be on the ship. My friend, Nancy, is a seasoned “cruiser”–with VIP “perks”–so “I’m in good hands.” ~~ This morning, I did laundry so everything clean as I depart. The “black water” tank was emptied. Plants have been watered–although we have had lots of rain.
Thursday, I got a wonderfully attractive hair cut so I’ll look good even if “windblown.” I’m feeling so “lady-like”: I pulled neglected jewelry from a drawer, and packed for the cruise. Around the home, wearing old clothes in the garden, seldom going anywhere, no need to wear earrings, etc., etc.

Yum yum, delicious salad!! The last of the perishables from my “house type” refrigerator, in the laundry room. During the lack of RV refrigerator, the old refrigerator has been a blessing!! ~~ Hopefully, “the old lady” will accomplish everything necessary so no need to lament, on the ship, “Oh, I forgot….”
Major disappointment !!
The RV refrigerator is worse than before!! Not cooling at all. Furthermore, the RV repairman did not have time, yesterday, to repair the leaking faucet. 10:30 AM and I’m heading to the RV business (with my credit card) to pay for service calls, and buy a new faucet. This type can’t be purchased at Lowe’s or Walmart so probably an expensive item?!
Home again–with $300.00 less dollars. Purchased a new faucet for the kitchen sink, and scheduled additional refrigerator repair for the 23rd.
Speechless !!
The RV refrigerator has been a concern for many months. A repairman from a local RV repair business was here several weeks ago to survey the situation. Returned today with the replacement part. Had I known the repair was “so simple,” I would have called sooner!! “Speechless” because I don’t know what else to say about this experience.
Whoda thunk it ?!
Magnesium: My first thought of the day!!
After a Google search, the following information from a website.
Magnesium oxide has the highest amount of elemental, or actual, magnesium per weight. However, it’s poorly absorbed. Studies have found that magnesium oxide is essentially insoluble in water, making absorption rates low.
Adequate magnesium levels are important for a good night’s sleep. Magnesium can help your mind relax and your body achieve deep, restorative sleep. In fact, studies in rats have shown that magnesium levels below optimal led to poor sleep quality. Currently, a limited number of studies have observed the effect of magnesium supplements on sleep quality, which makes it difficult to recommend a specific daily dose. However, in one study, older adults who received 414 mg of magnesium oxide twice daily (500 mg of actual magnesium total per day) had better sleep quality, compared to adults who received a placebo. SUMMARY: Based on limited research, taking 500 mg of magnesium daily may improve sleep quality.
Dosage for Reducing Muscle Cramps
Many conditions can cause muscle cramps. Since magnesium is key to muscle function, a deficiency may cause painful muscle contractions. Magnesium supplements are often marketed to prevent or improve muscle cramping. Though research on magnesium supplements for muscle cramping is mixed, one study found that participants who received 300 mg of magnesium daily for six weeks reported fewer muscle cramps, compared to those who received a placebo. Another study observed the effectiveness of magnesium supplements on leg cramps experienced during pregnancy. Women who took 300 mg of magnesium daily experienced less frequent and less intense leg cramps, compared to women who took a placebo. SUMMARY: Although further research is needed on magnesium and muscle cramps, taking 300 mg of magnesium daily has been shown to decrease symptoms.
Dosage for Depression
Studies have shown that magnesium deficiency may put you at an increased risk of depression. Therefore, taking a magnesium supplement may improve symptoms in some people. One study found that 248 mg of magnesium chloride improved depressive symptoms in those with mild-to-moderate depression. Moreover, another study found that taking 450 mg of magnesium chloride was as effective in improving depressive symptoms as an antidepressant. While magnesium supplements may improve depression in those with magnesium deficiency, further research is needed to conclude if supplements improve depression when magnesium is within normal limits. SUMMARY: Supplementing with 248–450 mg of magnesium per day has been shown to improve mood in patients with depression and low magnesium levels.
This is my product and according to the above information, one tablet should be enough. The last few nights, I’ve awakened, screaming, with a leg cramp. Obviously, I can’t go on a cruise and start screaming in the middle of the night!! Last night, I took TWO (2) 500 mg tablets but awakened experiencing excruciating pain. (Yes, I’ve been labeled a “peculiar person” so I don’t “fit”….) SUMMARY: Lack of sleep, depression, leg cramps, “Lorraine’s a mess”!!
Wednesday tasks
Very unusual activities today. (1) Packaged supplements for the cruise (daily, individual, small plastic bags). (2) Created small containers of shampoo, conditioner, lotion, etc., etc.. (3) Defrosted the freezer because (finally) RV repairman is returning (tomorrow) to repair the RV refrigerator. (4) The thrift-shop purchase suitcase is packed and I believe I have “more than enough of” everything for one week. Curious observation: Searched for the link re: suitcase purchase and noted I bought travel-size shampoo, etc., several weeks ago. I forgot… and didn’t check things already packed….
“No thanks”
The last thing I want to do “on vacation” is spend time on “a device.” I took a peek at this, out of curiosity, and ignored the booze, spa, and multiple other pre-cruise specials. OMG, they get into our pocket at every turn! Parking for one week: $80.00, and that was a discount because my lady-friend
(resident in the same RV Park) paid in advance. (True, true story: If I had to drive to Galveston, I would not make the trip. I do well to drive thirty-eight miles round-trip to my computer repairman.)
