Major meltdown…

…and not from the heat!!

Yesterday, I was experiencing problems with this five-year old computer. I decided to switch to the “new” Dell computer purchased approximately sixteen months ago. Purchased that computer for the family history scanning project. That labor-of-love came to a screeching halt when I was evicted from the CARE Center. The Dell has been gathering dust.

I’ve never password protected my computers!! Apparently, I deviated from that habit because I hit a wall. I couldn’t remember the password. Gospel truth: I’ve kept a notebook for decades with passwords for websites I access on the Internet (and other miscellaneous valuable information). No password for the Dell. Surely I wrote it in the notebook of information for the scanning project. I searched for an hour before I found that item–and no documented password. All the valuable information for peculiarities of the scanning project–but no password. Then I spent time attempting every password I’ve ever used, and variations of each. At this writing, I do not know how I’ll get into the Dell. I’ll do an Internet search and see if I can find an answer.

Searching for an answer

.

No time in the yard today; all my time (this morning) focused on my two laptop computers. My first Internet search suggested I could download a solution to a CD so I was searching for a blank. I rarely access the old (old) computer disks. Quite amusing: An old disk with “1996 newsletter.”  (I can throw that away.)

No small amount of time attempting to download only to learn (after the fact) it would cost $29.95. I abandoned that… and continued searching the Internet. Next, a toll-free number identified as “Dell Support.”  From 10:23 until 11:30, I was on the phone with Supriya Kumari, in India, a technician with GuruAid.com. After an hour with access to this computer, she was unable to provide assistance to unlock my Dell computer. She offered a plan for one-year technical support for $199.99. I declined; she offered one-time-only for $79.00. I thanked her for her time and said I’m eighty-three, on fixed income, and will “tough it out”  (muddle it through) without their technical assistance. The deed was done but curiosity prompted me to search… and GuruAid is portrayed as a SCAM on the Internet.

Next: Make an effort to contact Dell.

Ain’t no “free” ride !!

ALL DAY on the computer. Still no “free”  solution for my Dell computer problem. I may be forced to pay $30.00 or $40.00 to download the simple solution. I’ll postpone for a couple of days because my plants have suffered today without their fresh water. I’ll nurture them tomorrow morning before doctor’s appointments.

Slave to my garden ?!

Ten o’clock and I’m back indoors, in pleasant air-conditioning. I was wringing wet with sweat, outdoors, doing the every morning watering routine.

As indicated yesterday, when I go to–or from– the refrigerator in the laundry room, I briefly do a task in the yard. With this heat, one can’t be outdoors very long!!
