Put the elderly in prison

Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy !!

It’s 8:40 as I type this. I worked in the yard for a couple of hours. Ditto yesterday: Watered plants, pulled weeds, filled bird feeders, etc. As soon as the sun started to blanket its golden rays on everything, it got “sticky” hot. I’m a “wimp”; I was forced indoors.

I’m also “daffy, daffy, daffy”!! Whom do you know that would clean rain barrels? I’ve been shuttling back and forth, indoors and outdoors, washing the inside of a rain barrel. Second barrel later?! ~~ Makes sense to me: Rain water supply was depleted; clean prior to future rains. ~~ Despite the heat, I continually dash outdoors to “do” a few things and then retreat to the air-conditioned trailer.

(I really am “daffy” [you know?] because I don’t clean the inside of my KIA and/or 5th-wheel trailer.)

There goes another piece of my heart !!

Heart jigsaw puzzleIt’s 1:45 PM Saturday… and I just learned (via email) of the passing of a dear, dear cousin. ~~ Lowell Harvey Beachler opened his home, his library, and his file cabinets to introduce me to my ancestry. If you check my publication titled Frantz Families–Kith & Kin you will see him recognized for his contributions to the massive family history. Honestly, when I saw his name listed (in the email) I started sobbing “Oh no, oh no.” It has been ten years since we last visited but I’ve always believed we would meet again. Now, that visit will be when we both are in Heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Two days ago–at this very hour–I was attending a Memorial Service for an RVing and square dancing friend. There was “standing room only” in the multi-purpose room of the CARE Center–for Betsy Waite.

Letting go of friends, and treasures, is so painful!!Bleeding heart with bandage

Indoor project

Much too hot to be outdoors in the yard.  So I planted the Mandevilla slip in a small planter that will eventually go into a large outdoor planter. If this formerly broken branch thrives, I’ve gained a $20.00 plant.

Smiley face angry with two thumbs downMaybe check my blog message Watching them grow. Since that earlier blog, some plants have gone to plant heaven due to too much rain water and too much heat and humidity. Gardening in Texas is 100% different from gardening in North Carolina!!

Postscript, Saturday, July 18, 2015, 9:15 AM: I spent a couple of hours in the garden before it got hot and “sticky.” Plants were watered, weeds were pulled, and neglected Hummingbird-Trumpet vine was forcibly encouraged to climb the tree. (It wanted to crawl rather than climb. It was “neglected” because other gardening projects took priority. I’m eager for it to bloom–for my Hummingbird friends.)

“Did you read the book?”

During interviews, a dear old gentleman named Dr. Eby often said “Did you read the book?” He was referring to the Bible. I thought of him, and his statement, when I read the manual for the air-conditioner.

Indoor-outdoor temperatureBlank screenMy air-conditioner manual said to push a small sharp object into a reset hole after installing new batteries. So I did… and think it improved the operation of the remote control. Having that success, I checked for an obscure little hole in battery compartment of my indoor/outdoor thermometer weather station. My “sharp object” is a long, skinny “finish” nail. Almost immediately, the long-time blank area for outdoor temperature appeared. (Blank since I replaced batteries.) Hallelujah!! (When all else fails, read the manual.)

I worked briefly in the garden but was forced indoors by the heat and humidity. “Yes, 96 degrees in the sunshine.”

I’ve been frustrated by lack of outdoor weather information. I’ve “looked” at a possible replacement but considered it a frivolous expense and did not purchase.

The temptation was strong to name this blog Houston, we have a problem.” Frankly, I don’t want to “confuse” folks that may Google that phrase!! I don’t have an answer to my air-conditioner problem. First thing this morning the inside temperature was seventy-seven degrees. Two oscillating fans and a Casablanca (ceiling) fan had been running all night. (I slept on a sofa in the multi-purpose room of the CARE Center.)  ~~ A repairman arrived at 11:35 and surveyed the situation. He didn’t see an obvious problem “top side.” He asked if I had changed the batteries recently on the remote. I said “no,” and quickly changed the batteries. Standing in my living room, he punched the buttons and said “There are dozens of remotes; each one is different.” (Elementary my dear Watson.) Reaching up to the vents in the ceiling, he said the A/C was pushing out cold air. I paid him… and rushed off (late) for lunch. I’m typing these words at three o’clock and both thermometers–indoors–confirm that it is eighty-eight degrees. It seems to me, the trailer should have cooled off more in three hours. On the other hand, the outside heat and humidity may make it difficult to drop the temperature?!?! ~~ From the Internet, the following information for Livingston, Texas.

Remote for A/CAt the end of the day, this closing comment: If I only have a “thermostat” problem, I’m extremely fortunate. All these hours, thermostat (on remote) set at 63 but temperature never got below 76. I can live comfortably with today’s indoor temperatures!!
