Window on the past

VHS tapeLast night I watched two old television movies: The Christmas Box, and The Timepiece. I recorded them on VHS tapes (almost twenty years ago) so I had the unexpected pleasure of watching some really good (IMHO) commercials. There were advertisements for appliances at Sears, and clothing from J.C. Penney’s, and candy manufactured by Hershey. Attractive people–fully clothed–where dramatizing the commercials. Frankly, I am sick of present-day TV advertisements for prescription drugs. (Do you listen to the “side effects” from taking that drug?)

Available at Amazon, I recommend it as a gift to the family. Not too early to think about Christmas gifts!!

One evening, I’ll watch The Oldest Confederate Widow Tells All. ~~ Believe it or not, this is part of my “downsizing”!! I watch them (on VHS) and then put them in a box of donations. I can’t bear to throw away; I prefer to recycle.!!

Furthermore, I have The Thorn Birds, and A Woman of Independent Means.

True statement: I’d watch television but I refuse to pay the high price of Dish or Direct satellite (some of my neighbors are paying over $100 per month). The antenna I purchased was a bad investment. I’m watching several favorite TV programs on Yidio, on my computer. But the WiFi signal from CARE is rather weak so I’m cursed with “buffering.” (Just learned something [reading the definition]: Maybe it isn’t the WiFi signal, maybe its my computer?)

from Food 4 Patriots (Food4Patriots), please read this article.

Have I proven that I’m not a sheep that is easily led?? That I am self-reliant?? Well I received a link to an advertisement for survival food–but I won’t share that link with you. As I read their lengthy “infomercial” and listened to the message, I wondered how reliable it was. I went to Ask.com and asked… and found this article very revealing. Don’t be duped because of scary stories about Ebola pandemic, etc., etc. Yes, be prudent but don’t throw your money away on the survival food offered by Food4Patriots. ~~ The following might be our alternative??

Shopping for my garden

Tomato planters Hearth and PlowPlow & Hearth sent an email advertising a sale–so I went shopping (on-line).  I like this tomato planter but it is too expensive. Yipes! $60.00 for a rather small planter!! Recently, I bought tomato plant supports for $2.00 on-sale at Tractor Supply. A five gallon pail is an inexpensive planter–and wheels under a planter is a luxury we can live without?!Cute little tables

These cute little tables would compliment decor in my yard but, again, too expensive.

Plow and Hearth plantersPlanter wheelbarrow

Smiley face thumbs down

Isn’t this wheelbarrow planter adorable?? The planters are lovely!! No, I won’t purchase!!

I’m spending far too much time “shopping” but I’m catering to my body. Aches and pains from lifting heavy cement paving blocks **AND** I was bitten by an unknown insect the other day and it is swollen and itches terribly. I seldom visit a doctor but wonder if I should have a “professional” look at this.

One o’clock PM postscript: I must be sick (LOL!!) because I am housecleaning. I almost never clean house!! I almost never invite anyone into my trailer because it has been so cluttered. But, this morning, a frustration: “Where is the Windex??” I searched… but did not find. That’s the serious “downside” of a move: Where are things?

Plenty of seatingWell… I couldn’t resist a little yard work. I hosed off several chairs (that had been stored away) and set them up on my expanded patio. I shifted water-weight containers (helping to settle the blocks) and hosed the expanded patio. I’m hoping wet soil under the blocks, and weight, with improve the project. In retrospect, I can’t believe I moved over a ton of cement paving blocks: thirty-seven pounds each, times seventy.

The end…

…at least for a little while?!?!

Originally I planned to lay the last three blocks after the tomato plant died. But I realized I could shift the planter to and from four “same size” blocks. Now I’m very happy with my slightly less than $200.00 patio. Another CARE resident paid over $1500.00 (several years ago) for their “poured concrete” patio.

The five biggest lies about Ebola being pushed by government and mass media

Government lies.

“As the crow flies,” it is only 180 miles to Dallas, Texas–with Ebola patient. ~~ I’ve followed the Health Ranger for years; I trust him.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This new (mid-afternoon) message from the Health Ranger: Texas family ordered into 21-day lockdown: are you prepared with enough food?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

And this from Dr. Mark Stengler <HouseCalls@newmarkethealth.com>

Why do Wall Street (and Big Pharma) love Ebola?

It’s here, my friend. Ebola has arrived, and it wasn’t brought into the country via a carefully quarantined patient.

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, it was found in someone who was walking among us for days with symptoms — days in which he was contagious — before seeking help.

Even the CDC announced that the patient in Texas may have already spread this deadly disease to others in the United States.

Does anyone else find this just a little bit fishy?

Ebola was once limited to a remote corner of the globe — a disease so rare that Big Pharma couldn’t be bothered to work on a cure. And now suddenly, a disease that only spreads through contact with bodily fluids has found its way into the United States… but almost nowhere else outside of Africa.

At this very moment, the same drug industry that once thought Ebola was too unprofitable to treat supposedly has a cure and even a vaccine already in the works.

And with the fear factor setting in thanks to all the panic-filled Ebola headlines, there’s now enormous pressure from a frightened public to put them both on the fast track.

Coincidence?

I’ll let you be the judge. But Wall Street has already spoken. As the news out of Texas was announced on Tuesday, shares in companies working on Ebola drugs and vaccines suddenly jumped.

But before we panic and let Big Pharma turn us into a nation of Ebola guinea pigs, let’s use a little common sense — because I believe there’s a cure for this deadly disease hiding in plain sight.

Intravenous vitamin C has not, as far as I know, been tested against Ebola, but it has been highly effective against similar hemorrhagic diseases such as dengue hemorrhagic fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Omsk hemorrhagic fever and more.

It’s effective because there isn’t a virus on earth that can withstand C when it’s delivered properly and in high enough intravenous doses (and, just as importantly, early enough — with any illness, when the organs start to shut down, there is a point of no return).

Another option is intravenous hydrogen peroxide. Like vitamin C, intravenous hydrogen peroxide can also wipe out just about any viral invader — and I have no doubt that would include the Ebola virus.

So, instead of panicking and calling on the government to give Big Pharma a multibillion-dollar Ebola payday, let’s urge them to fast-track something else entirely. Let’s raise our voices and demand REAL research into vitamin C therapy, intravenous hydrogen peroxide and other natural cures for Ebola, done properly and by researchers with no ties to the drug industry.

And in the meantime, remember that good hygiene is the first and most important step in disease control. Use caution when out in public, don’t travel at all to any location with an outbreak, and wash your hands frequently no matter where you are.

Here’s more…

anti-inflammatory-food-pyramid…because I’m serious about my health and that of my neighbors, friends and family. Everyday, my email box  is full of messages from many practitioners of holistic health. Here is a realistic (to me) Food Pyramid. It’s an uphill battle–for me–when I advocate alternative medicine here at CARE. Day before yesterday, free flu shots were given (but not to Lorraine).  You’d think I have leprosy the way nursing staff and some residents avoid me. Furthermore, many residents actually seem to enjoy the woefully inadequate diet served here. Next Spring, Lord willing, I plan to plant my own organic vegetable garden. (I’m still planning for one or more garden towers.)

I love my little postage-stamp-size yard and garden!!

Postscript, Friday, Oct. 3rd, 2014: Thought I should add (and clarify) that I’m one of those “radical” people who don’t believe in flu shots.
