Dear Follower of my blog,
Praise the Lord! Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 106:1
After George Washington authorized the first Thanksgiving Day in 1789, 74 years passed without another such day of thanks. Then, Abraham Lincoln established the holiday as an annual event in America. His Thanksgiving Proclamation is worth reading again today:
It is the duty of nations as well as of men to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scripture and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord.
We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens.
President Lincoln authorized our annual Thanksgiving Day in 1863 – in the midst of the Civil War.
Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
May we all remember during this season of Thanksgiving to express gratitude for all of His many blessings.
Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5:20
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!
Good food, good fellowship !!
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving !!
I have always heard if the Scripture mentions something once then we better pay attention, but if it mentions it twice then we better take heed. Scripture for your family to refer to during this Thanksgiving holiday:
Wednesday – “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Ephesians 5:20 KJV.
Thursday – “O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good; for His mercy endureth forever,” 1 Chronicles 16:34 KJV.
Friday – “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you,” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV.
Saturday – “Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever,” Psalm 106:1 KJV.
Sunday – “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations,” Psalm 100:4-5 KJV.
Have a Blessed Thanksgiving!
So well stated, I copied from an email message from Monica Cole of One Million Moms.
Woebegone !!

Yes, this old lady is “woebegone.” She would prefer that woe be gone. Yesterday, without obvious reason, I was involuntarily crying while sleep-deprived and sitting in my easy chair. I didn’t even want to watch TV; I lack the desire to “climb the family tree.” To ignore Ancestry.com is very, very unusual.
Reminder: This is my “journal.” It’s important (to me) to document my day-to-day experiences. One year ago. Two years ago. Three years ago. Four years ago (long before I was evicted from the CARE Center). Sixty-seven years ago today, I married a man who later deserted the family and left me to raise three little boys alone. As I said in an earlier blog message “Not a ‘pity party’–just retrospect.”

Peculiarity ?
Fourteen blog messages already prepared and scheduled for late November and December. Why? As mentioned earlier, I’m “bone-weary“ and I have aches and pains. Too much heavy lifting; too many hours with the leaf blower. On Sunday (yesterday), I listened to—and watched—TV church messages while searching for clip-art and creating generic blog messages. For two reasons, it was (1) relaxing to sit at the computer and (2) focus on the project masked the fatigue and pain.
.
One preacher got my attention when he identified a problem in my life. “Slothful.” I identified with the preacher’s message (but have a problem with dictionary definitions and the above weblink). I’m guilty of “All the unfinished projects” (downsizing) but don’t think I’m lazy. Never-the-less, I am challenged to evaluate my daily life.
James 5:16 KJV
Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Chick-fil-A thumbs down !!
Considering their recent shunning of previously supported Christian organizations, I will never patronize their fast food establishments. I suspect numerous Christ-centered Bible-believing Christians will also “shun” Chick-fil-A. Read what others are saying. ~~ In July 2012 and August 2012, I wrote about my support of Chick-fil-A; I was present at a support demonstration at a location in Charlotte, North Carolina.
