Redeeming the time #2

Couldn’t sleep…

Yesterday, I struggled with the “set up” of the new phone. To use another hackneyed expression: “An exercise in futility.”  How can I sleep when my mind is “struggling” to uncomplicate the complicated?

New adventure

More information later. ~~ “Later” came faster than I imagined. I am supposed to insert a SIM card but I did not receive a SIM card. I’ve checked the box several times thinking I overlooked it but “it” isn’t here!! How frustrating!!

One hour twenty-five minutes “later” and I’m here to tell you I never want to go through this experience again!! OK, reading the fine print (with difficulty), the SIM card was already installed. So I started the laborious task of attempting to “set up.” OMG, you’d think I was applying for a top-secret security pass!! My hands, my fingers, aren’t very large but apparently my fingers are too large for the keyboard. It took many attempts to get the information entered. Then, without any warning, I was back to the beginning as though I hadn’t already gone through half-a-dozen steps.

4:25 PM and I’ve been struggling with this for two hours. Now the phone won’t let me do anything. I’m fortunate because I have years of computer experience. I understand electronic “expectations” better than most folks my age. I was able to maneuver through a half-a-dozen steps but now I’m unable to do a single thing.

I abandoned the project in the late afternoon.

On my soapbox !!

Two stories captured my attention this morning: Finnish Christians going to trial because of their faith. 2) Today is the one-year anniversary of the death of Rush Limbaugh. One small voice (Lorraine) speaking out for Christian beliefs and a strong emphasis on America’s leaders “leading” according to the Constitution of our Founding Fathers.

Ketsup

With regard  to “climbing the family tree,” I rarely have the luxury of saying “catch up.” I actually completed several projects I’d been working on. When I drift away from the person in the obituary or I begin documenting from a message or comment, I scribble a note telling me “back to…” About 2:30 PM, I finished the last “back to…”  (Catsup, ha, ha.)  I hope to focus my mind and body, on procrastinated projects. ~~ The new phone is scheduled for delivery tomorrow so I will have the challenge of setting it up and learning the features.

Clang, clang, clang…

…a bell started ringing in my brain.

Before I cancel my cell phone service with Jitterbug/Great Call/Lively, I need (needed) to get all of the names and numbers in my “contact list.” Gratefully, I did not procrastinate…

Allergy relief ?!

This old lady rarely leaves home. Her last grocery shopping trip was on November 22nd (yes, November 22nd). Truthfully, I’ve never been “an online shopper.” Two years of Coronavirus mandates and I’ve never ordered groceries for pick up or delivery. Friends have encouraged me… but I’m “stuck in a rut.” Furthermore, I’m a procrastinator!! I should have checked for allergy relief weeks ago!! FYI: This has been dragging me down for eight weeks.

Changing the subject: Last week (on the Internet) I shopped for a new phone and a new service. Jitterbug/Great Call/Lively has never answered my request for Customer Service. My new phone will be here soon.

Redeeming the time

Coughing…, couldn’t sleep…

Yesterday, I started documenting the extended family listed in an obituary. It took me far and wide. Then Ancestry.com notified me of a message. While “Michael” was documenting his family he came across my tree and recognized the “Frantz” surname. He contacted me with information about his great-grand-aunt. So (naturally) I had to search and document his limb of the tree. That kept me up past midnight. Busy brain, limited sleep, coughing…

Too blessed to be stressed ?

This morning, about noon, I couldn’t stop coughing and spitting up phlegm. I was feeling discouraged: “Will this never end?” Then I looked at the long-stem red rose and began to count my blessings. So many gifts, so much kindness!! THANK YOU!!

Stepping back in history

With my “extended” family, I meet them in unintended places. Here is an example (from yesterday’s adventure with the Wolf/Wolfe family). For many months, on weekends, I walked the LaVerne Evergreen Cemetery documenting the names and dates. During the week (after my job with L.A. County). I would enter the cemetery information into my computer. Next weekend, I’d drive back and “proof” my printout against the tombstone (for absolute accuracy), and read more inscriptions. It was an extremely large, beautiful, place for exercise and fresh air (more than 3000 individuals were documented). That was my introduction to “Brethren” surnames. Why did I start the project? My “Frantz” grandparents are buried there.
