Obsession with “sources”

One hundred twenty-two individuals were added in two days plus dozens of sources. Here is an illustration of my sources compared to sources in a cousin’s tree. (“Cousin’s” lack of… is not an exception.) I’m always scribbling notes as I research and document individuals. I’m finished with that frustrating project with two ladies named Lydia sharing identical birth and death information. ~~ “Downsizing” today; piles of paper going into the wastebasket.  🙂

.

Postscript (almost 10:00 PM): Late last evening, I received an obituary via email. Today I documented the individual and shared my information with several other family researchers. Here’s a response and I want to shout that a few kind words encourage me to “climb trees,” research, and “dig deeper.”

Thank you
I was about to give up and your email filled in a couple gaps and I found that James Edward BEISNER 1932 is a 13th Cousin twice removed. Neff’s line made the connection.

This evening, a message came via Ancestry messaging. I answered within a few minutes… and the frustration of inaccurate death date informationfrom Find A Gravewas again a priority. My next project (tomorrow) is to double-check all my information about John Bowman and family.

Labor of Love Day

Genealogy “not genealogy” story

A friend phoned (last night) with helpful health instructions. (Phone “socializing” makes me very happy!!) My friend still enjoys the luxury of RVing and always has delightful stories about his adventures. One such story was about the Hobo Museum in Britt, Iowa. I said, “I know that place, my father was born there.”  Of course, I had to “double-check” and I was partially accurate: My uncle was born there and my father was born in a nearby community. (I’m so blessed to have my good memory!!)

Emphatically !!

Rather than a complaint about how bad I feelor about the horrible heatI want to voice my gratitude for a comfortable home and pleasant surroundings. I am distressed as I watch TV and see pictures of the hurricanedestroyed areas and homeless people. OMG, the flooding and destruction in the East and the fires in the West.

No pain, no gain ?

Lorraine has a new definition for “no pain, no gain.”  Aleve and IcyHot alleviate some of the discomforts but they are forgotten when researching. “How did we get it so wrong? Is my documentation correct?”  **If** there were “no pain” then “no gain” in my Ancestry family tree.

“Good grief” !!

“Getting it right” gets complicated because of “same name” and close family relationships. I’m still collecting information on Charles O. Flory and eventually no more green leaves (hints).

.

Postscript: It’s nine o’clock at night (twelve hours later) and the two men named “Charles” have been researched and thoroughly documented. I expected to find each on a separate limb of the “Flory” tree. Strangely, I couldn’t find the ancestors of Charles “A” beyond his grandfather. That’s a research project for another time. Sufficient for today: Two men named Charles Flory properly documented.

No tree for me ?!

Yesterday, all day, I worked indoors “filtering” my overabundance of “stuff.”  Paperwork was shredded, discards went in the wastepaper basket, “donations” set out on the porch. Items are going into boxes with labels identifying their eventual destination. For example, Christian books and literature to Love packagesand many books to the local library for their “Friends of the Library” book sale. ~~ So much to do!! “Day One” of my new downsizing project. ~~ The meteorologist says it will be cooler next week so “next week”  I’ll (hopefully) make progress in the carport and storage room.

.

Truth be told: I was “doing” genealogy in my dreams!! Then, wide awake (in bed), I was “doing” genealogy.  All the while, my gut was protesting against yesterday’s carefully selected food items. My legs were/are mildly comforted with IcyHot Pain Relieving Cream. ~~ Old age isn’t for wimps!!

September to remember ?

Earlier this year, I published a message titled New tune in June. Blame the Coronavirus-Delta variant, the extreme heat, or lack of motivation… “downsizing” was neglected. I have “good intentions” for September.
