Marvels of the mind

Last night (about 9:00 PM), I had an uncanny experience. Earlier, “Cousin” sent another obituary and I was adding the family to my database. Obituaries are a gold mine of information and they allow me to connect with families (quite possibly) in my database. Documentation was very ordinary: Name, dates, spouse, children, “sources,” etc., etc. Suddenly the name “Hiva” came to mind. (“Hiv-a” like live-a.) Quite possibly, it has been more than thirty years since I thought of that name. I was visiting the Old German Baptist Brethren community for the first time and it was my introduction to my Frantz-family ancestry. I was invited to go to the funeral of “a member.”

While documenting family in my Ancestry.com database, I reminisced about that trip to Modesto, California, from my home in Lancaster, California. Yes, I “thought about” Hiva and the funeral. Where did those thoughts come from?  Not ten minutes later, “Hiva” appeared in my database. I didn’t remember her last name, I just remembered her odd given name. She was the sister of a person I was entering into my Ancestry.com database.

I deem this “an uncanny experience”  because my mind was working faster than my fingers. Does that make sense? My brain already knew I was working with a particular surname and would make the observation. “My mind was working faster than my fingers.”

God, the Creator of our Universe, gave us a remarkable brain. Computers constantly need to be replaced with a more sophisticated model. Our brain lasts a lifetime.

Naked truth ?

Rosebush yesterday versus rosebush today. This is the wrong time of year to prune rose bushes but it was ugly and I’d never get all the “deadheads.”

.

Then… too hot and humid to be in the yard.

.

Now back to my first and second love: Computer and coffee.

Eager to receive this recent purchase !!

It’s a “fire pit.”

.

These two, a different product but an example of our future fun.

“Mr. Red” is the owner-manager of the RV Park. “Yes,” he owns a 1940 Army Jeep. On the 4th of July, we went to a convalescent home and drove around it a dozen times waving and (hopefully) putting a smile on the resident’s faces. Then we drove through several shopping center’s  parking lots waving and shouting “Happy Independence Day.”

A Jeep fire pit was a gift on a TV program and my immediate thought “Gotta have it.” Social activities have been curtailed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, Mr. Red suggested we have a “fire circle” and roast marshmallows or hot dogs. As the weather gets cooler, perhaps the residents (of this RV Park) can be coaxed out.

“Mr. Red”and the residentshave been so good “to this old lady.”  It makes me so happy to share!!

Furnace one day and A/C next day ?

Not exactly!! Yesterday, I refused to turn on the furnace but today (at 3:55) I was forced to turn on the air-conditioner. This has been a strange dayout of the ordinary. The day started “deliciously” with a waffle, and social time, in the clubhouse (social distancing). Also a ride around the Park on the three-wheeler. Later, Mr. Red (owner-manager) fell off the three-wheeler and is scratched and bruised. He is forced to “stop” and rest. My injuries are slight: Pricked by thorns on the rose bush (while cutting off “dead heads”). Such a beautiful day: I felt compelled to work in the yard. My confusion is great: Why did my refrigerator-freezer stop working? Strange day events!! Strange indeed because I must “tidy up” my cluttered home and have it “presentable” when repairmen come (on Tuesday) to evaluate the refrigerator-freezer problem. Procrastinate no more!! I’ve ignored the clutter while “climbing the family tree” but I’m embarrassed to have someone else see my clutter!! Explanation and exclamation!!

“Bookends” ??

Note the temperature before and after my morning projects.

In addition to “hosing” the KIA, I did some work in the yard. The temperature was/is pleasant and “work in the yard” was invigorating. I’m indoors for a coffee break and change out of wet jeans and wet shoes.
