Humor (to brighten your day) !!

Potato HeadA friend sent this link to a nostalgic view of the fabulous nineteen-fifties.

Because I am “three quarters and counting,” I remember….

Did you know?… Mr. Potato Head was invented in 1949 and sold to the public 3 years later.  Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television.  The toy was originally used with real potatoes.  The government put a halt to that when complaints of rotting potatoes became a safety issue.

Buried treasure !!

Buried treasureUnbelievable!! Years ago I had all my 35mm film processed by Seattle Film Works. Then I learned that my pictures would go to Shutterfly–but I never responded to the email message. Today (for no apparent reason) I checked Shutterfly and–voila–I found hundreds of my OLD pictures. ~~ Awesome!! ~~ I’ve been walking down “Memory Lane.” ~~ I had  a wardrobe of vests–for every occasion–and wore them to church on appropriate days. (Picture number five: I’m a leprechaun on Saint Patrick’s Day.) That’s a patriotic vest I’m wearing in the picture with the pastor. ~~ OMG!! I won’t get a thing done today (other than look at old pictures). ~~~~ Van and trailer before it was totally destroyed in an accident in April  2000. More about that later because I found all the pictures of the wreck. (Praise God, I walked away with only a few glass scratches!!) ~~ Over the years, I have done serious “downsizing”!! I frequently took things to a local Flea Market!!

Ford Van and Kit travel trailer accident

Not one of my finer days!! Here is the link to one roll of pictures. Here is the link to the second roll of pictures on Shutterfly.

This is a new experience–working with Shutterfly, and albums. I see that the pictures are “scrambled” and I wish they were in consecutive order. Maybe–with time–I can learn to refine the finished product?! I totaled the Ford Van and Kit travel trailer on an open stretch of Interstate 10, west of Needles, California. Truly, it is by God’s grace that I wasn’t killed or seriously injured!! If a big rig truck had been on my bumper, we would have been ground into the asphalt!! Instead, the trucker was about one-quarter mile behind and immediately stopped to assist.

I was en route to areas in the East where I would continue genealogical research. I had everything I would need for several months. One picture shows things I salvaged sitting at the edge of the highway. One picture shows the items in a rental truck. My son came to get me–and the salvaged items.

America’s head-on course toward self-destruction

Same song, second verse: Read the articles in Natural News!!

Mike Adams presents a view of the future in this article titled No matter who wins, today’s election outcome can’t stop America’s head-on course toward self-destruction .

Flag, Bible and Cross

If my people, which are called by my name,

shall humble themselves, and pray,

and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways;

then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin,

and will heal their land.

For your information…

November 2004…I left Lancaster, California, exactly ten years ago.

The moving van had already departed for Ohio. I stayed to vote… and then began my feverish drive to Brookville, Ohio. I say “feverish” because the truck driver drove a lot faster than this proverbial “little old lady from Pasadena Lancaster.”

Completely unexpected…

…and don’t know why…!! Perhaps, subconsciously, I was responding to comments I’ve heard about others getting out their winter wardrobe. This morning I hoisted the foot of the bed and pulled out containers of winter clothes. While I had it open, I removed the Nikken mattress topper, electric mattress pad, Nikken comforter, etc., etc. Off came the bedding (and the awesome better than a sleeping bag) and, one-by-one, I added the items. I’ve slept on the Nikken mattress topper for over a decade (except this last year). Magnets make the difference (!!) and I really need to get back to restful sleep. (I’m awake for hours each night!!) ~~ I didn’t unpack the winter clothes until late afternoon and tried to fit them into the recently created over-the-bed storage. Winter(s) may be so mild here in Texas, I may not need the big variety. I’ll begin to “weed out” and downsize. ~~ It’s 7:30 PM and I wish I had television so I could watch election results. Perhaps I can find some news on the computer and Internet??

Winter clothingPostscript, Nov. 5, 2014: Correction: The bulky mattress topper was removed recently from my mini-storage unit (down the highway). I took it to the recent camp-out in case one person needed to sleep on the floor. I also took a sleeping bag.

Serendipity: One of my roommates gave me a “thank you” card. She wrote “How would we have made it without your [bottled] water; wasn’t it your [hand] soap? And your extra cleaning [I washed the dirty dishes]? You were a great bed fellow–no snoring, leg cramps, etc. Thanks for going. More hugs.” ~~ My response: It’s just my nature to “plan ahead,” etc. ~~ (Question: So why is it taking me so-o-o-o long to get settled–and organized–in my not-so-new home??)

Nikken mattress pad & demolished trailer

Nikken mattress pad from inside demolished trailerYou’ve seen the pictures of the accident?? Well (on the left), that is the Nikken mattress topper with the weight of one wall on it. Then a picture from inside the demolished travel trailer. At my insistence, my son extricated it.
