My camera is never very far away. Actually, I was in my yard when I saw the four Armadillo in the field–and ran for my Canon. Gratefully, I have a telephoto lens because they were too far away. These are the first I’ve seen in Texas. (One viewed briefly near my T@B travel trailer while I was living near Orlando, Florida, 2010.) ~~ Mystery solved: Now I know what has been digging up my yard and the adjacent field; the Armadillo have been digging for insects and grubs.
Three Quarters & Counting 
When I first moved to FL, I couldn’t figure out what kept eating my tomatoes…until I saw one in my yard. I went in and read about how armadillos can hold their breath, and that they don’t have teeth, and like soft foods. After that, “Arnold” and I co-exhisted happily for many years, with my veggies up in tubs.
As you know, Deb, almost all my plants are in planters–and elevated. Those four critters better stay away from my veggies!! I planted another tomato plant today–so will have three varieties (if all goes well), and cucumbers, and beans. When I buy more organic planter soil, I’ll plant lettuce seeds, green onion seeds, radish seeds, etc. I’m anticipating the arrival of several years old asparagus plants from a new resident. He has years-old… at the home he is moving from. If all goes well, I should have asparagus this Summer or Fall. Yum-yum, I’m eager for a salad fresh from my garden.
