Mystery solved !!

My camera is never very far away. Actually, I was in my yard when I saw the four Armadillo in the field–and ran for my Canon.  Gratefully, I have a telephoto lens because they were too far away. These are the first I’ve seen in Texas. (One viewed briefly near my T@B travel trailer while I was living near Orlando, Florida, 2010.) ~~ Mystery solved: Now I know what has been digging up my yard and the adjacent field; the Armadillo have been digging for insects and grubs.

When I first moved to FL, I couldn’t figure out what kept eating my tomatoes…until I saw one in my yard. I went in and read about how armadillos can hold their breath, and that they don’t have teeth, and like soft foods. After that, “Arnold” and I co-exhisted happily for many years, with my veggies up in tubs.

    • As you know, Deb, almost all my plants are in planters–and elevated. Those four critters better stay away from my veggies!! I planted another tomato plant today–so will have three varieties (if all goes well), and cucumbers, and beans. When I buy more organic planter soil, I’ll plant lettuce seeds, green onion seeds, radish seeds, etc. I’m anticipating the arrival of several years old asparagus plants from a new resident. He has years-old… at the home he is moving from. If all goes well, I should have asparagus this Summer or Fall. Yum-yum, I’m eager for a salad fresh from my garden.
