The Celestine Prophesy

The Celestine Prophesy movie. Did you see it? I watched it on DVD and found it very interesting, and very unusual.

Rodney KingInstead of wars, and rumors of war, “why can’t we all just get along?”  Day and (sleepless) night, I’m considering the words of Rodney King . In the news, we are subjected to endless details of the wars in the Middle East. And, close to home, in our tiny CARE community, strong opinions on both sides of an issue.

The Celestine Prophesy, The Nine Insights. Definitely, something to think about.

4 From this perspective, we can see that humans have always felt insecure and disconnected from this sacred source, and have tried to take energy by dominating each other. This struggle is responsible for all human conflict.

Completely changing the subject (almost): In The Celestine Prophesy movie, one individual said Saint Francis saw beauty that others did not see. Yesterday my next door neighbor called my yard “a jungle.” Ouch, that hurt!! My yard is “a work in progress” and (IMHO) a place of beauty and serenity.

Fighting Hummingbirds (5)From my kitchen window, watching a pair of Hummingbirds fight over a feeder!! They are very territorial… and do not want to share!! I marvel when I hear folks talk about three, or more, on their feeders. I’m told there are hundreds of Hummingbirds –clustered like grapes–in Rockport-Fulton, Texas, for the Hummingbird Celebration. That’s this weekend and, unfortunately, I’m committed to a Square Dance exhibition on Saturday afternoon. Furthermore, the local birds and blooms club resumes after “going dark” for the  Summer. Wish I could be in three places at once!!

Great day to work in the yard !!

Finished project with rain containersSweat was pouring off my brow as I worked on the paving blocks!! But good exercise (the blocks weigh thirty-seven pounds each)!! The first time in a long time that I could tackle that project (due to awful heat and humidity).  But I’m so weary (at 5:45) I haven’t the energy to fix a good meal (great food in the refrigerator). ~~ This morning: Laundry, ironing, and pulling weeds.

Such a beautiful old tree.

Time and temperatureAll day!! Loved my sweater!! Now (at 6:15 PM) I’m indoors having hot tea. ~~ I recycle!! Pine cones hit the ground every day and I collect them for the bottom of planters. The coco fiber will be cut into small pieces and added to drainage material in the bottom of large planters. During the afternoon, I drilled holes in the bottom of the new large planters. Drilled… with the used electric drill I bought last Saturday for $10.00. Wow, is it fast!! Until now, I didn’t realize how slow my portable, battery operated, drill is. Pulled more weeds; much miscellaneous. (Didn’t take pictures.) But, IMHO, the new planter inserts look good–for the wrought-iron hanging baskets. When the weather dictates, I’ll buy and plant pansies. ~~ Yesterday (during the rain) I promised myself (with cooler weather) I’d start laying the cement paving blocks again. But today the weeds were more important. Furthermore, I couldn’t resist bringing the hanging baskets back to the wrought-iron support and display. ~~ DoughboyFresh bird seed replaced the soggy-wet seed, and the birds are lovin’ it. “Nothin’ says lovin’ like somethin’ from the oven Lorraine.”

Boy did I get a bargain?! Look at the price of the 100% biodegradable bamboo fibers planters I called “new planter inserts for wrought-iron hanging baskets.”  I paid $3. each.

Radical change !!

Time and temperature

Time and temperature

Time and temperatureWearing a sweater (!!), I was in my garden quite early. Weeds came up with a gentle tug!! Mud and debris was hosed off the patio and sidewalk. It was an afterthought to take pictures of the temperature. Such a shocking change from the heat and humidity that has plagued us all summer.

Relief from the heat !!

Oh, sweet relief from the heat!! How wonderful to turn off the air-conditioner!! It only rained for about one hour ten minutes but it was hard and heavy!! ~~  Note that red pail (last picture) is sitting on picnic table bench (seen in earlier picture). Four inches… and none is “run off.” Four and one-half inches in new planter and a small amount might have dripped from awning. Volumes of water poured off the corner of the awning into the rain barrel. Both rain barrels, and blue tub, are full. FYI: Overflow from first rain barrel goes to second barrel and blue tub.

The Maintenance Manager just left my yard (3:35) after instructing me that the planter–with Bluebird house–must be moved soon. Maintenance will construct a “berm” along the tree line and a ditch to divert water to a drain at the front of my site.

More pictures, in my garden !!

Planter inserts

Black base for St. Francis

~~~~~~~~~~~
Went shopping yesterday and found planters on sale at Tractor Supply. I bought three large and eight small planters. I’ll need for next Spring?! It was a wonderful surprise to find plastic planters that will fit in the wrought-iron hanging baskets. Coco fiber worked OK in planters, in North Carolina, but–in Texas–the plants dry out too soon. (Dry out, and die.) Then to Walmart for ink for my printer–and found two more larger planters. At a thrift shop I bought the bed rail ($3.00) and it may become a trellis next Spring. ~~ Note last picture of St. Francis of Assisi on freshly painted base. Fifty minutes later he was in “Lake Lorraine.”
