Experiment

Rain predicted all week so I’m trying something new. I speculate heavy rain will “wash out” seeds. So I’m attempting a head start for the seeds before transferring them to the Tower this time next week. “Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”  The seeds are several years old and mayor may notgerminate.

.

Postscript at 11:40 AM: TV programming was interrupted to advise us of golf-ball-size hail in some areas. I’m praying it doesn’t come to this neighborhood and damage my plants.

.

Postscript at 1:25 PM: Not complaining; much-needed rain.

Weary woman !!

The past couple of days, I’ve enjoyed a triple application of exercise. Correction: “enjoyed” is embellishing the truth. After a year of sitting at the computer for endless hours, “exercise” is good for me but (truthfully) I ache all over!!

.

.

.

.

True story: I need to make another trip to The Home Depot for two or three bags of garden soil. Yesterday I purchased a bell pepper plant so I have the pepper plant and three tomato plants in need of attention.

.

Postscript at 4:00 PM from wearier woman.”  I got started and “never a stopping point.” I need several more bags of garden soil; I need to start planting lettuce seeds. ~~ I intended to cut a three-inch hole in the bottom of the white pail in preparation for a “topsy-turvy upside-down tomato plant.” I want to show neighbors “it can be done.” Eight or nine years ago, in North Carolina, I had beautiful “topsy-turvy”…

.

.

Postscript at 6:30 PM. ~~ On second thought, the predicted several days of rain might “wash out” seeds planted in the Tower. I’ll wait for next weekend. (Purposeful procrastination?)

.

Third Postscript and a “third thought”: Seeds could have been planted and the Tower covered with a tarp. However, a variety of sizes of tarps were sold and/or given away before I left Livingston.

Wonder woman !?

I wonder how I did it. (Sheer determination?)

.

.

.

To be continued.

.

Twelve noon and I’ll be visiting Home Depot for more garden soil for the Garden Tower (after lunch). I added some of the precious “veggie” soil around the Jasmine. ~~ “Doing” today because more rain predicted for the weekend, and next week.

Wise woman ??

All by myself, I drove to The Home Depot for three bags of garden soil. Then to the huge H.E.B-Plus for groceries. “Wise woman” because I went shopping before the predicted one week of rain.

Preparing to plant…

…the Jasmine.

Strenuous exercise. I want to plant the Jasmine and train it to climb the trellis. I handled the soilwithout glovesand was bitten by fire ants. Too soon old, too late smart?! ~~ I’m pleased to report that there wasn’t a lot of damage from the recent rainstorm. Some… but not a lot.

Math problems, etc., etc.

I’ve wanted to “subtract” lots of items before I “kick the bucket”so someone else isn’t left with “don’t know what to do with this stuff.”  Sadly, circumstances seem to “multiply” my projects!! Today was cloudy and cold in addition to yesterday’s torrential rain. I haven’t opened the door and ventured outside. I know I will find things (in the carport) water-soaked. I’ve divided my time between Ancestry and insignificant indoor tasks. I’m depressed.

.

.

5:30 PM and I just checked my email. this message was waiting for me “Uncle Jim’s Worm Farm has sent you a package!” ~~ That package contains 500 red worms to “add” to the Tower Gardens. Some for my “tower” and some for the second “tower” in the yard of my new gardening friend.

Indoor projects

The weather has forced me to work on indoor projects (and that’s OK). If we didn’t have rain and cold, I would have planted the tomatoes and the Jasmine. ~~ “Indoor projects” does not include researching extended family on Ancestry.com. I’m corralling clutter.

.

Postscript at 3:00 PM: I wasn’t expecting extremely hard rain, lightning and thunder.  I know I will find water-soaked, damaged things in the carportitems I’ve been working on while downsizing.

.

Oh no, woe is me!! 3:10 PM and I just discovered a disaster in my bedroom. The window was open and the rain soaked things under the window. Earlier in the day, I checked… and the rain wasn’t a problem.

Back to normal ??

Five miles round-trip to Home Depotall by myself!! I’m getting excited about gardening. I especially want some tomato plantsand I bought four. The day has been surprisingly COLD. Two days ago we were experiencing high heat and humidity. Today my mind was “in the yard” and I did not downsize or accomplish anything indoors. Fresh air and exercise in contrast to sitting at the computer all day. “Fresh air and exercise” while wearing a sweater all day.
