Heartache

“Downsizing” is necessary but it breaks my heart to part with treasures. Yes, I’m shedding tears. Remember Danny O’Day? When my sons were young, they enjoyed Danny. There was a box with baby clothes that I sewed prior to the birth of my first son in 1955. There were my embroidered dish towels that were in my “Hope Chest” prior to my 1952 marriage. Souvenirs from Europe when we lived in Paris from 1959 until 1962. Also: Gift items from friends and family. Furthermore: My parent’ s old, old camera that took so many black and white pictures, and my old, old Argus camera that took so many (color) pictures in Europe. Too many items to list… and (sadly) my sons did not want my memorabilia.

Rescue me ?!

The cool, pleasant, late afternoon weather drew me back to the carport and storage. OMG!! This is a continuation of my daymare.” Picture albums and memorabilia that I can’t throw away.~~ Another reference to an old Apartment Life magazine: Put picture albums in old suitcases and display them in the living room. ~~ I think I’m overdue for the purchase of another scanner so I can digitize the pictures. Long live Lorraine?

Hallelujah; Tucker is back

Tucker Carlson is back; I’m so glad; I missed him!! This update from Mike Huckabee. Oops, I just discovered that this link doesn’t reveal Mike’s entire message. Sorry! So I copied it from Mike’s message.

Tucker Returns
Tuesday, Tucker Carlson made his return to broadcasting, or whatever you call it these days, with the first episode of his new show on Twitter. It drew a massive number of views, but it felt like a “getting your feet wet” episode, unless he plans for all future shows to be only about 10 minutes long and release several of them per day. Here it is on Rumble:

He covered two topics that are known to be important to him: the Ukraine war and UFOs. As for the latter, I was frankly surprised that he chose to make his Twitter bow with this story, both for what he said about it and what he didn’t say.

The story involves a supposed “whistleblower” with high level security clearance who claims that the US secretly has crashed UFOs (and the bodies of alien pilots) and for years has been studying the technology to reverse-engineer it. Carlson called this potentially one of the biggest stories in history, but he said all major media outlets had chosen to ignore it, citing that as proof that the media exists to bury the truth, not report it.

I can kind of get on board with that last part, but the rest is just flat incorrect. Immediately after watching this, I did a DuckDuckGo news search and found plenty of coverage of this story across the political spectrum, from the UK Guardian to the New York Post. Turning on Fox News, I saw it reported on the straight news and discussed in its own segment on “Gutfeld.” (Comedian Joe Machi had a great line: Why are we trying to reverse-engineer spaceships that crash? “Is this a trap?”)

In fact, this is the kind of splashy story that the media love to cover. It gets lots of eyeballs and clicks because there’s a built-in audience for it, thanks to it being the basis of countless movies and TV shows, from “Independence Day” to “The X-Files.” That’s not to disprove Carlson’s point that they want to distract us from all the important stories that they don’t want to cover. I’d say it actually proves that, just not the way he thinks it did. I was even surprised that Carlson covered it instead of some of the many other major stories that have occurred since he’s been out of the public eye.

As for the credibility of the story, well… The source has impressive credentials, but many commentators had questions. He claimed he’s given documentation to Congress members, but he didn’t share any photos or documents, and he admitted he hasn’t seen any of this himself. He assured us that other people he trusts told him this is true. That’s not exactly “whistleblowing.” There’s a legal term for that: “hearsay.” Up until Democrats started charging Trump and his supporters with everything under the sun, it wasn’t considered actual evidence.

And now, the part I’m surprised Carlson didn’t talk about: why this story would be coming out now. I’m pretty sure he believes there is a vast conspiracy of totalitarian/socialist/communist government leaders, megalomaniac billionaires and arrogant elitist pratts (ahem: “John Kerry”) who are trying to shred that pesky Constitution and Bill of Rights so that they can establish a one-world global government and dictate how the rest of us live. It’s not even like it’s a secret conspiracy theory anymore; they go on TV and brag about it.

We also know that they see any “global threat” as a golden opportunity to advance their power-grabbing agenda. They did it with COVID and it worked frighteningly well, which is why we see them using organizations like the WHO to prepare us for giving up even more freedoms during the “next pandemic.”

Unfortunately for them, that blasted First Amendment still applies sporadically, and a lot of people have talked about their mishandling of COVID and are unwilling to be suckered a second time. “Climate change” is the other “existential threat” to the Earth that they’ve used for years to amass money and power, but after 60+ years of failed predictions, including snow still existing and the Pacific Ocean stubbornly refusing to cover Florida, people are growing skeptical of that, too.

So if you wanted to frighten people into thinking that there was an existential threat to Earth and we needed a global government to save us, wouldn’t the idea of space aliens be awfully convenient, not to mention well-timed (it suddenly leaks now after decades of it being kept top secret in a government that otherwise leaks like a sieve?)

That’s the angle that I’m surprised Tucker Carlson didn’t mention, since it seems to be in his wheelhouse. The “whistleblower” even made a comment himself (“This is a global phenomenon, and yet a global solution continues to elude us”), apparently oblivious to how that might sound like a motivation for such stories being internally circulated for leaking. Even President Reagan once said, “Perhaps we need some outside, universal threat to make us recognize this common bond…I occasionally think how quickly our differences worldwide would vanish if we were facing an alien threat from outside this world.” Maybe that’s the only idea today’s gang of one-world government pushers ever took from Ronald Reagan.

But they obviously did learn something from early 20 th century journalist and curmudgeon H.L. Mencken, who wrote this a century ago:

“The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed, and hence clamorous to be led to safety, by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary.”

Taking care of business (physical and with the phone)

Like working in a sauna!! The trunks were my grandfather’s and he gave them to me about 1974. He indicated they made the trip from Oklahoma, to California (according to my genealogy, after 1920 and before 1927). Therefore, the trunks are older than this old lady who celebrated her eighty-eighth birthday in March. ~~ I’ve contacted an antiques and collectibles dealer. These… and much more. “They” should be delighted with the variety.

Here’s a little history about the brown trunk. I read in an old issue of Apartment Life, the suggestion that we take an old trunk and “paper” the inside, add a glass top, and store our treasures where they can be seen (inside the trunk). I “papered” the inside with wallpaper with images of old patent medicine bottles. I put treasures inside and plate glass on top.  Framed photographers of the family were displayed on top. For many years, I had a beautiful simulated old-fashioned oil lamp hanging above the trunk. “Old-fashioned” in appearance but equipped with an electric light–and a very attractive display (in my humble opinion).

Kind words from a dear friend.

Holy cow, have you ever made progress. Painful, both physically and emotionally, but wow, have you ever gotten things done. And you’ve gotten out. I can only imagine the whirlwind of emotions you must feel. Hopefully, even though you hate to part with some things, it will be a huge weight off your shoulders, so to speak.
