Regarding the move, Friday June 16th

Quoting from an earlier message: “You will not believe the events on Friday, June 16thbut every word is true. At 4:30 in the morning, the fire alarm went off. It is a horrible loud screeching sound and it continued for an extremely long period of time. I rushed to my door, and the corridor, to see what was happening. I met (for the first time) a couple of neighbors who were standing in their doorway. ‘Oh this happens all the time’  was the message. I went back to bed…”

Another quote from an earlier message: “I’ll ‘fast forward’ to the late afternoon when we had a monster rainstorm with enormous bolts of lightning close to our building. First, we lost the TV signal, and minutes later we lost electricity. My apartment became very hot, very quickly because no A/C. I checked the corridor and neighbors were standing, or sitting, in their doorway because the corridor had lights and A/C. I heard voices in the lobby area so limped down the stairs and joined the group. When folks headed back to their apartment, I too, headed to mine and went to bed. (Climbed the stairs for the second time…)  Before ‘bed,’ I opened the door to the balcony, and the storm door, and propped them open so I had cool air inside my apartment. The power came on about midnightbut no TV. I haven’t heard details on TV news but I suspect it was an area-wide power failure.”

Hallelujah !!

Early on this Sunday morning, I located the computer keyboard (buried in stuff in the bedroom) and began the process of hooking up the monitor and keyboard to the CPU. Little by little things were accomplished. First: Checked my email. Second: Gratefully, I was able to download (upload?) the pictures from my camera to the computer. Third: The ability to reach WordPress and publish this blog message. Note our extremely hot weather in Waco.  More pictures and details about my move will follow.

For your information: The message, below, was prepared about ten days ago and “scheduled” for Father’s Day. Love from Mom!!

Greeting from Lakeshore Estates, Waco, Texas

Number One: No pictures because I’m not able to upload pictures from my camera. I’m “limping” into this message using an old laptop computer.

Number Two: Two young men with a truck labeled  “College Hunks” facilitated my move. I think their goal was “get it loaded and get it unloaded.” I had things packed–and labeled–so it was (imho) easy to load. At my new location, they unloaded everything into the bedroom without consideration for my clothes, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair brush, shower soap, etc., etc. I can’t find my clothes but GRATEFULLY found some bathroom items (so I could showerwith soapand shampoo my hair). No pathwayboxes from wall to wall and right up to the bedroom door.

Number Three: Our weather has been extremely hot. The back of my KIA is crammed full of things “they” could not, would not take. “No liquids, no prescriptions, etc.”  The containers are “supplements” and not prescriptions!!! I’ve made several trips to my car with my hand truck and a medium-size box to transport the items. Many more trips are required but I’m physically and emotionally exhausted.

Number Four: You will not believe the events on Friday, June 16thbut every word is true. At 4:30 in the morning, the fire alarm went off. It is a horrible loud screeching sound and it continued for an extremely long period of time. I rushed to my door, and the corridor, to see what was happening. I met (for the first time) a couple of neighbors who were standing in their doorway. “Oh this happens all the time”  was the message. I went back to bed…

Number Five: The elevator wasn’t working when time to go to breakfast. “Where’s the stairs”  was the question I asked myself. I walked back and forth in the corridor and found the door leading to the stairwell. With the assistance of my cane and the handrail, I went down two flights of stairs. (I’m on the third floor.)

I do not know why I started using numbers but here is event number six: I’ll “fast forward” to the late afternoon when we had a monster rainstorm with enormous bolts of lightning close to our building. (Climbed the stairs for the second time…)  Before “bed,” I opened the door to the balcony, and the storm door, and propped them open so I had cool air inside my apartment. The power came on about midnight–but no TV. I haven’t heard details on TV news but I suspect it was an areawide power failure.

This morning, for some strange reason, the dining room was much colder than before. I started to excuse myself saying I was going back for a sweater. Then I remembered that I do not know where the boxes are with my clothing. I do not know where to find a sweater. I sat through breakfast shivering cold.

WHEN I locate the several parts for my desktop computer, I’ll be able to upload pictures. Furthermore, it is much easier (for this old lady) to compose blog messages on a desktop computer. OMG, this laptop is a struggle!!

Check back from time to time for more details.

Scammed !!

Stupid old lady Lorraine foolishly became the victim of a scam. It started with an email message thanking me for my purchase and it had shipped. I know I have not ordered anything. When I looked at the order, it is an iPhone, and shipped to a name and address unknown to me. On the purchase order, it says to call a designated number to cancel the order. I called… and, figuratively speaking, jumped through hoops to reverse the charge. The strange thing: Reportedly a PayPal purchase but to my knowledge I don’t have an account with PayPal. I’ll spare the reader all the details. “Yes,” the two individuals I talked to had an accent. The second man was reportedly with “the billing department” and wanted me to go into my Bank, online, to verify that the money had been credited. I did…

Long story short: I think “they”  had control of my computer and may have seen my login and password. After the calls were terminated, on my computer, I could not type or navigate the mouse. I realized that I had been scammed.  I quickly turned the computer off at the CPU (because I couldn’t navigate to the proper “shut down”). I’m not one to ask for help but I suddenly had the inspiration to walk across the street and talk to a young couple who are undoubtedly “savvy.” They got on their phone and called my Bank. There wasn’t anything suspicious (yet) and the Bank employee walked me through the steps to change the password, etc., etc.

As I publish this message, it has been three hours and thirty-five minutes since I placed the first phone call. All is OK, now, but I’m angry with myself for being so gullible!!
