Creature of habit !!

“As the twig is bent, the tree is inclined.”  Have you heard that expression?

This blog, and the note, is a “postscript” to the blog message about my search for information about Donald Brubaker. Lo, those many years ago, I was commenting about dedication to documentation. I found the note while searching an eighty-eight-page printout of Brubaker information (from a Brubaker). There was a possibility I had details at my fingertips?! I went to (my) Digitized Library of Family History and reviewed all the Brubaker information (couple-hundred pages). No success.  😦

Worthy of a story ?

This mystery has my full attention. Dozens of searches on Ancestry and Family Search. Also a search of Frantz Families–Kith & Kin.

.

Mennonite Family History is gracious about publishing my stories. My brain is spinning with ideas for a brief story about Donald Brubaker. Frankly, how can a man live to be 100 years old and there is so little information available about him?? (See my earlier blog message titled Challenged by a Centenarian.)

.

Challenged by a “centenarian” !!

This morning, on NBC Today Show, Al Roker recognized men and women celebrating their one-hundred birthday. Because I have “Brubaker” in my family tree, I felt compelled to search for Donald Brubaker, born Aug 1919. Quite possibly I could identify our “cousin” relationship. Well, “an exercise in futility”  because more questions than answers.

Why do I do it? Why spend hours gathering information on an individual–or a family? (1) The challenge; (2) the sense of satisfaction when details are documented that another person didn’t find or didn’t document; (3) a direct relative (of the individual) might be grateful for the information. Speaking of “challenge”: Capturing these pictures was labor-intensive. I hoped for a distinct image of the old gentleman.

Tremendous Thursday !!

Tremendously blessed!! There aren’t enough words to describe the events of this day–nor would the reader be particularly interested in all the details. I have to confess that I wrote a negative blog message about 8:00 this morning. Very negative… because of a poor night’s sleep, and depression, etc. My morning changed from “sad” to “glad” so I returned to my blog to remove the negative message. By the grace of God, it hadn’t been “published” (although I was certain it was published). ~~ I’m so grateful for “Good Samaritans” who nurse my wounds.

….

Will power Wednesday

“Yes,”  I’ve refrained from climbing the family tree. No Ancestry on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Granted, I’ve had other topics on my mind. ~~ Extremely hot weather and the thermometer is predicted to register triple-digit. Then add eight, nine or ten degrees for “feels like”  temperature.

“To do or not to do; that is the question.”

.

So much to think about!! To move or not to move, that is the question. ~~ I rarely leave my home and my yard. I was unaware of the property for sale in our Rainbow’s End RV community. A friend knocked on my door on Sunday evening and wanted to take me for a short ride because she had something she wanted me to see. “To do or not to do?” ~~ Yesterday, I visited my Bank (in Livingston) and learned I am qualified for a loan (well qualified). ~~ I hate to consider a move but “What will I do?”  if my nasty landlady doesn’t renew my lease?? There are details about landlady, and current residence property, that I won’t write about today. Suffice to say, my long-term residency (here) has been questionable. ~~ At my age, I question the wisdom of the purchase of real estate. ~~ OMG, all the things to consider before and after a move. Certainly not a “vacation” and I’d be forced to “stay” off the computer and Ancestry.com.  I’d be off my derriere getting a lot of exercise!!
